Greeetings all, please could you help me with a quesstion. I am building a Catalina 5 which I purchased from Dare Engineering, and the model requires covering with tissue and dope, (which I did on models MANY years ago). In those days there was talk about using silk and dope or some such cloth. Although I have built many models in my 52 years, I have never flown one (too scared) but really just love building them. However, I might just give this one a try. I would rather use something stronger than just tissue, what do you guys think?

Rev, I'm going to send this over to Modeling Science where this type of thing is discussed more often.

Welcome to RCGroups, by the way! :)

Modern plastic films are easier to apply than tissue and dope..but the underlying structure needs to be different, in general.
The films really contract with heat, and will distort light framed structures.
Tissue and dope is still a viable covering, I use it myself now on some planes.
