I'm kind of new to this too Nathan but thought I'd give you my two cents. That PT- Gyro looks pretty cool and seems like its made for beginners. I'm hearing good things about it. Check out...www.flyingbalsa.com
Also check out http://clients.ransomgroup.com/goodeye/ for more info.

Good luck.

Hey, GWS is working on a auto gyro by using GWS PT-17 fuselage. :)

Who is GWS? www.gws.com.tw

Great machine. Sorry about the photo quality will try to do better next time. Its nice to go to the field , fly five flights ...and return with the same gyro model, intact!!!, that you went out with. Bill

Bill,
Congratulations on the successful maiden of your PT gyro. What is the power setup of your gyro? I am doing a gyro that is very similar and want electric power, so I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Is that some sort of brushless you've got there Bill? Congratulations, and let us know more about the power setup.

Ari.

Hi,
Fitted with a VORTEX 28/30/12 20 amp speedcontroller and finally a 3s2p2400 lipoly pack (see [url]www.allelectricrc.co.uk). Initially 9x6 prop and 3s1500kokam . Flew ok but felt slight underpowered because the battery could not sustain 10 amps continuous.Tried new prop GWS 10 x 8 + 3S 1500 kokam pack. Better but problem of current greater now.
Next flight fitted 3s2P 2400 (pack 18A overload 25A) and things were much better.Extra 2oz in the nose so greater hang angle to..and flew better.
> Flew from the grass and hand launched. Estimated full power is 13.8 amps
( on the bench so 12A airborne) giving max of 140 ish watts and 24 oz so 80watts/lb. Grass take off satisfactory cruise at 3/4 power. Bill
But ....Tom Smith has an electric gyro ( seen at Spring Hill) and he says ......."I just checked my setup with the Nippy 400 Silver, Jeti 18amp controller, and the 2s Tanic 1550mah lipos. The readings, on a pack charged 2 weeks ago reading 8 volts, was 64 watts at 9.8 amps, swinging an APC 8x4 E prop on my 19.4 ounce Gyro Schtic. She will easily fly from a gentle hand toss in a light breeze. Mine, having only direct rotor head control, is not capable of ROG."

Bill,
Thanks for the power stats. That helps a lot.

Not a problem. I think the reason Tom's successful setup is less powerful is that his rotor must be lighter. Bill

Get the PT gyro. After i built mine i couldnt get it to fly right after the 1st flight. i crashed and crashed it very hard each time. after bout 10 crashes i broke the mast off and the last crash pushed the firewall in. The guy at PT were very helpful and even sent me the new peices out the smae day at no charge. The problem was me. i just cant fly these things becuase i lose my orientation to easily without a wing to see. SO i added on a small no functional wing so i could tell what it was doing. Now i dont and any problems flying it. i think John is going to test some ideas similar to this to aid the beginners.
