Hi all,
My name is Mark Tozer and I live in Australia .
I have just retired from my working life as an electronics technician(due to
medical reasons-I'm now a paraplegic in a chair).
I have decided to put some of my experience in steam generation (electronic
boiler control on a bank of 1000Kw Boilers}to work and build myself a steam
driven model tug boat.
The boat kit I have chosen is the Model Slipways Envoy class Tug (Civillian
Version). I have ordered the kit and I'm waiting with bated breath for
delivery.
I'm in the process of choosing the engine/boiler plus accessories.
I am particularly interested in the 'Avon' engine and boiler from Model
Steam Engines in the UK.
My close second choice is the 'Proteus' engine and boiler from Cheddar
Models Ltd in the UK.
Q1:- Does anyone here have knowledge of these engines?
No matter which engine I choose I will be fitting the Cheddar Automatic
Boiler Contol system to the boat. this control system requires an engine
driven water pump to refill the boiler from a feed tank.
The 'Proteus' has the pump factory fitted, the 'Avon' does not, but it does
have the provision for the fitment of a water pump by means of an extended
crankshaft stub at the rear of the engine.
Q2:- Can someone point me in the right direction (on the net) for engine
driven water pumps?
This will do for now. I'm sure I'll have a million questions by the time I'm
finished this model and, hopefully, lots of answers to pass on to other
newbies.
Thank you,
Mark,
