I just noticed that MS Flight Sim 2002 is about $17-18, plus maybe $4 for S&H, at Buy.com, and there is a valid $20 rebate. So if you remember to send it in, it is essentially free.
I don't know if it is worth anything for training, but it ought to work with the PPJoyCOM serial interface as a virtual joystick (driven by the various transmitters and cables) and may at least be worth getting for a buck or two net as a game.
I find the landscapes in FMS not detailed enough to figure out how well you're hovering a heli model (I can't tell if I am really moving horizontally or not), I am hoping the MS sim might be easier.
