Here what I am hoping you will post to make setting up these little beauties easier.
Power Plant (including gearing if applicable)
Prop (type & size)
ESC (type & size)
Battery type (make, cell count, and capacity)
Servos (make & qty)
Center of Gravity (measured forward of flap hinge line)
Radio setup (mixing, etc)
AUW (in oz.)
Flight report (as much info as you want to share.
Picture
Would request that people who post just copy and paste above list into their reply and away we go.
What else am I missing for just a very easy reference thread that I think about a zillion people could benefit from.
No other post than the above info and only for F-18. No chat, questions, etc.
You should PM someone direct with questions about their setup and then they could edit post if answer would be helpful to others
If this has already been done then hopefully a moderator can close this thread but before that provide a link to something else.

8. Flew AWESOME on my maiden flight, I couldn't be anymore happier with it, when I take off, it can go straight up till I decide it's too high, goes very fast (faster than I expected), does everything perfectly. Can't wait to get it flying again :D
Pics and videos will come after I repair the wing, and give it a paint job!

Power Plant: BP21
Prop: GWS 8043/8040
ESC: ELE 17A
Battery type: Kokam 3s 1250
Servos: HS55 x 2
Center of Gravity: as per instructions
Radio setup: nada (other than trim..had to subtrim vator +100% coz I didn't adjust servo horn before I glued the panels - duh!).
AUW (in oz.): mm..no scale
Flight report: Maiden flight was a buzz. Plenty of power from a gentle hand launch into full flight. Plenty of power for verticle and aerobatics. Landings are a bit tricky coz she tends to flare (nose up) on slow approach. I found that coming in with a bit of speed then cutting power gave it a nice smooth running belly landing rather than a "ker-plop" kinda landing.

Anybody flying the Hacker 20-20L on thid bird?

Socomon,
Hi! Um, well I can't tell you directly about the Hacker motors because I've never had any first-hand experience with them, however if you can find it there's a great video of Tim Hart flying his F-20 Tigershark with a Hacker B20-15L geared at 4:1 using TP 2100's and 9X6 APC electric prop. It's a complete rocket with that set-up! The jet only weighed 20 oz. in the video with that set-up and I think it may be a little bit bigger than Steve's original F-18..... Can't remember where I saw the video... I have it on my computer, but you might check one of two places if you want to see the vid:
1 the foamy factory website (not sure, might be www.foamyfactory.com )
2 Tim's original F-20 thread here on the forums....
I know that's not the motor that you were referring to, sorry about that, but this seems like it would be another possible set-up for the F/A-18 (which is about the same size) that could fly the jet REALLY fast if speed is what you're looking for. (I'm a bit of a speed nut... :D ) I'm assuming that the B series of Hackers would be comparable to the 2025- series of Himax motors, so the A series of Hacker motors would probably help you keep the weight at a few oz. less with a TP1320 batt than the heavier B series motor would with the 2000-2200 batt.
Anyway, have fun, take care, and may God bless you!

Power Plant Hacker A20-20L
Prop APC 9x7.5 SF
ESC Hacker 20
Battery TP 2100 mah 3cell
Servos Hitec HS55
Center of Gravity as per plan
Radio setup 30 degrees of flap and I can't remember how much up elev
AUW 21 oz.
Flight report: Nice and fast, excellent vertical. I launch underhand, full power, slight toss, and straight up (as per J.Morgan), torque roll is very easy to correct this way
Picture sorry - kinda new at this posting, but made from plans & FFF, Blue Angles paint scheme, Ultracote yellow trim, and home-made decals from Jetset44's posts (thanks Steve)

Can't believe nobody has posted the AXI 2212/26, Phoenix 25, TP 1320 Prolite with APC 9x7.5 SF prop. I feel that it is the ideal setup. Oh well, there it is. 2 cents again. :)

i tried out the axi 22-12-20 on my 30 oz glassed F-18 and it was a ball of fire on a 8x8 apc E prop, electrifly 25 amp esc and a TP 2100 3s PL...lots of fun, VERY fast(around 70 mph) and had pretty darn good vretical..BUT..it was extrememly effected by torque...lauch was a butt clincher... originally had a e-flite 400 920 kv on this model, which wasnt bad, but nothing impressive either...i think the 22-12-20 on a 20 oz f-18 would be a pure rocket ship!

How did you go about mounting your Hacker to the stick? Did you buy one of those aluminum mounts?

FMA 150-watt outrunner
8x4.3 slow flyer
15 amp esc.... motor, esc and prop was a combo
3 cell TP 2100
JR Micro with JR rx
Not sure of CG about 1/3 from root LE
T,E,A,R no mixing at this time
AUW 18 oz
Flies nice, climbout from under hand launch rolls alittle to the left but quickly stabilizes, will loose alot of speed on verticals but continues to climb until I turn it around. I did a knife edge loop the other day just to see if I could, rudder is very effective.

Steve,
I have had excellent success witht the Cobri aluminum "rotating case mount". It's strong and relatively light-weight. Even lighter is the alum Hyperion "HP-Z22" mount, but it's not as strong. I went through 2 on not-so-bad landings, but their only $5.99. I think both mounts are available from allerc. By the way, the Hacker A20 and the AXI 2212 have the same mounting bolt pattern.

Hey guys,
With an AXI 2212-26, should I use a 9X7.5 Slow flyer or 9X7.5 thin electric prop? I'm thinking thin-electric as I'm pretty sure that they draw a little tiny bit less amperage, but I just wanted to find out which one to use and/or why one might be better than the other. Thanks so much guys, I really appreciate it! I might be getting one of these AXI's for the F/A-18 since I've heard so much about it..... Didn't really want the 2212-20 yet since I'm looking for tons of speed and wanted to try and get some decent flight times in, so I'm hoping the 2212-26 will deliver the pitch speed and thrust for this plane to still fly really well.... Not sure if I'll get it yet though, we'll see. Thanks!

Has anyone considered the new Axi 2212-12 as a high speed alternative to the 2212-20 or even, I dare say...the LSPJ? From the numbers it looks like 20 or more ounces of thrust and speeds in the 80s or better! 280+ watts is a lot for these park jets but you could always prop down!

Sounds pretty sweet - what is the amp draw?
R/C Dallas
Oct 13, 2006, 08:59 AM
28 amps for 60 seconds. 14-22 is the peak effeciency range. Drive calc shows 24.8A at 10.28V on a Hyperion Litestorm 3S 2100CL using an APC 6x5.5E prop producing 689gr thrust and a optimum cruise speed of 123km (78Mph). That should make any of Steve's Park Jets scream! I am thinking to try this v.s. dual LSPJs on an F-14 down the road.
