Anyone done a comprehensive comparison of governors lately? Pros and cons, specs, that sort of thing. I have heard good things about the CSM Revlock, but there are others I know nothing about. Also heard about many broken GV1 screens. Finally I need one but I know I should do my homework. Help anyone?

CSM Revlock ?
Helimax 1500 ?
Throttle Jockey ? Pro?
GV1 ?

Thnx

ive tried both csm rev lock, and futaba gv-01. currantly im using the rev lock, because of price, and qualiaty. i have accually had probs with the gv-01 sensor, that stops reading after some time, but my rev lock just goes on and on. so i'll say buy the rev lock. its real easy to set up to, but u need to read the manual. its not like the gv-01 to set up. for more info on the csm rev lock, look at http://www.rcmodels.org/csm

u are gonna like it if u try it ;)

I have the throttle jockey and to be honest, i still havent got the darn thing to work. Iv'e been doing 3d with my bird all last year and have set up the throttle curves really nice mechanically, so the fact that I havnt got the Gov working yet has not set me back. Still, I would like to see if the TJ can improve anything.

I got the TJ because of the cost difference between it and the GV1. Feature for feature, they seemed the same, except the TJ has no display for you to verify any settings. In hindsight, i think next time I would pay a little more for the GV1 and have the luxury of *Seeing* the settings.

I'll have to wait for next spring before I can resume "fiddling" with the TJ

Hey russern- that revlock looks good. thanks for the link, I'll check it out. My experience with CSM products is all positive. I have a CSM SL560 and I rave about its performance. Compared to the other HL's i've got, its the best gyro i've got. So maybe a CSM revlock is what i'll get next

The model avionics revmax limiter works very well. It doesn't limit the engine power like a governor since there is no lag. www.modelavionics.com

Thnx Colin, I read the 36 pages of springerlike stuff on that other forum. After all of the huff and puff I did get a lot of useful info on the different operational principals of each device and now I have a much better look at the complicated big picture of 3D heli. I just wish that these manufacturers cared enough about the opinions of pilots like myself to consider giving us a freebie to try also. I have been ready to go exteme 3D for quite a while but have been holding back due to the need of a little help with my mixes (Revlock!!) My VERY small budget makes it critical to do a lot of homework before making a purchase like this. If I ever got the chance to evaluate any of them I would give a fair review regardless whether I bought it or not, because it's the right thing to do for other pilots needing a fair review. Thnx again everyone!

Have a look at this video of Alan flying the revmax...might help you pick which unit to run :p I love both of my rev-max's....I had one of the eariler "prototype" units and never looked back.

Thanx for the vid link ColinB...

That lad is a star! I was amazed at how well both Danny and Alan had progressed between 2003 and 2004 3DM. They both recived very highly deserved placings... Cant wait to see them both fly in 2005 3DM.

And yes the power of those factory OS engines.. provides some real WOW factor!

I know it was probably a dumb thing to do but I just bought a Helimax 1500 for $14.00 on E-Bay. There is no sensor or mag. At least for now it will have to do, so can anyone tell me where I can get the parts to make it go? I figure I'll play with this till I learn something from it. Any help would be great..............

Good thing ya only forked out $14 for it :) You're better off to use curves and throttle to cyclic mixing. The heli-max governor is not very good, it overspeeds BAD.

Yeah, I knew when I did it that it was a mistake. I'm new to Ebay and got impulsive. There was also a pair of helis I was bidding on that turned out to be a scam I guess, cause I got a notice from ebay this morning that all the sellers items and account had been cancelled for security reasons.
Any tips on how to reduce the overspeed or should I not play with it at all?

You can play with it, but the gv-1, TJ and revmax are a lot better. The helimax worked ok my my first .30 when I was starting loops an rolls...was good for it's time. I'd use it if ya got it :)

Thnx guys, I'll do that. (unless I get a revlock first!) I just found out that my "local" hobby shop shut down as of jan1. Now my "local" shop is 45 mins away...and they want $25 a gallon for fuel (15%) lucky me huh?

It seems that Model Avionics really does care about pilots like myself on a limited budget. After e-mails regarding a sensor and mag set for that old Helimax-1500 to M.A. I now have a TJ Revmax instead. They got back to me right away with a great offer on one, and when I told them I would have to wait to take them up on the offer, it came in the mail. I don't know about you guys, maybe you see this kind of thing happen, but it really shocked me. Needless to say I am now a BIG Model Avionics fan! Can't wait to try it. thnx for your help Colin and Russ........
