I'm ready to move up to a new sim ....
lots of choices but what is NOT clear to me is ....
Can the algorithms in the new generation sims do realistic dynamic soaring?
Which sims are most suitable for practising DS?
Any opinions ?

well, I believe that G3 is really one of the only sims out there with a slope to soar on, you may be able to DS on it, may be able to. However, I know an immediate solution to your question. Do a search for SSS, slope soaring simulator, I haven't messed around with it much yet, but it seems to have unusually good physics for being free! It's surprisingly realistic in feel, and is just like being at a slope where conditions change and the plane gets knocked around with gusts and turbulence. So, try it out, you may be able to DS off of a hill in it. I can only run it effectively in 800x600 really, I have a hi-def screen for my laptop, and it's frame rate reduces because it's so demanding on the processor, and not the renderer. Just like using software to render a video game versus Open GL and a AGP card. Give it a shot.

http://www.rowlhouse.co.uk/sss/download.html Great little pgm. Runs on really old, low power boxes if you turn down the landscape.

I'll try both, & let you know how it goes ....

and for combat you can get over 50 planes on the same landscape! thanks, ryan
