Ran across this vendor, and thought it might help some of you who use Pic's and build with through hole parts. He has no minimum order, and only charges $1.85 shipping. http://www.glitchbuster.com

I don't use Pic's and don't do much through hole stuff, so I haven't ordered from him, and don't know anything about him except what is on his web site. The thing that caught my attention was his no minimum and $1.85 shipping. When building small projects, the shipping and handling can easily be more than the price of the components. Does anyone know of other vendors with very low shipping costs.

His shipping price is low, but his prices are high. Mouser is quite a bit cheaper.

Dan,
I had not compared his prices against Mouser, but just glanced at the logic, analog and discrete prices, and they didn't look out of line. After your post I went back and did a comparison with Mouser prices. His prices on Pic's are maybe 20%-30% more than Mouser, but for most of the logic, analog, and discrete, there is less than 5% difference, and many were cheaper than Mouser.

My point was that for a small project with one processor, a few analog, logic and discretes, the parts cost is rarely more than $5-$10. I order from Mouser and Digikey all the time, and shipping is always more than $5. For $10 in parts, that is a 50% adder just for shipping, and for $5 in parts thats 100%.

I had only looked at the price of the PICs, transistors and a few diodes, and they were high, but I hadn't noticed that the prices on the transistors and diodes were for packages of 10 or 12.

On my last ground order, Mouser charged me $4.09 shipping.

I've dealt with Randy quite a bit and his service is beyond compare. Always willing to talk on the phone and is very helpful. If I can, I buy all my low-quantity PICs and programming supplies from him. Highly recommended!
