A little update here in front of the thread.

The Eurofighter plans are almost ready. We are ready for build in a week.

I will link to the plan, when they are ready.

The first shot off the plan

--------

We need a Typhoon Park Jet thread.

The Typhoon plan isn't arrived on 3D Foamy yet. I hope it will come soon. [;)]

I will make the plane in the christmas time, and upload building pictures, if the plans will be released in time.

I almost feel sorry for Steve now.. Hope he's only doing this for fun. He's been working like a machine the last months. Incredible planes but still... This is a hobby. Don't feel pressure Steve. Have your holyday and relax :)

Actually, I think Chris (Stratotanker) is doing the Typhoon for 3DFoamy, not Steve. Chris had posted news to this effect 4-5 days ago in the X-29 parkflyer thread.

Yep, I can confirm that Chris and Levi are doing the Eurofighter plans, not me. Haven't heard status on them for awhile, so I don't know when they'll be released.

But hey, I just posted Saab Gripen plans here last week, so if you're itching to build a European canard delta-winged jet fighter the Gripen is your bird! (sorry about the shameless plug.... ;) )

Merry Christmas to you too! I bet it really feels like Christmas in Vienna. It certainly doesn't here. Partly it's the weather (although it's nice that we can still fly at this time of year), but it's not just that. There's not a great deal of decorations and the palm trees just don't feel right to me!

Hey Guys,

Sorry I have not got to post on this subject sooner. Now that Christmas is over and Levi is almost completely caught up, I will resume design work on the Eurofighter as time allows, I would say that the design is about 75% complete and hope that it will not take too much longer to wrap it up. Christmas was really hectic around here trying to get all the orders cut to help Levi out, and working on the Laser to keep it running(broke down twice) I did not get any time to persue the typhoon at all. Now that all that is over I shut down everything and tore my laser system down for cleaning and repairs to get it running back to 100%, things should go more smoothly for us to stay on top of the designs(I hope). I will post info as soon as it is available!!!!

It's ok. My only need was to hear how the work goes. I'm very happy for your work, and hope you will design lots of models in the future. Take your time. I know how much time design work take, from my self.

I will start building then you release the plans.

Merry Christmas!!

The plans are in work but all of the parts are drawn in cad. I will be laser cutting one in the next couple of days to see how things are going to fit and then I have to go back into cad and close all the lines to get my tooling offset for perfect fitting parts. Once all the parts are fixed I will make the scratch build parts and plans for you all! I will post a picture of it when I get the first one framed up for you all to drool on. I am working as fast as I can, I have three turbine airframes to build this winter plus get my Stingray ready for spring too, I may have to give up sleep all together!

Stratotanker
Jan 02, 2005, 06:33 PM
Yes, I put interlocks in my designs, it is a pain but makes it easier to build. I take them all off of the scratch build sheet to make the kit that much better, not to mention cutting all those tabs with a razor would not be fun at all!!! The X-29 has quite a few interlocks, it made it really nice to assemble.

Not unless shes ready to give birth, a little hard work is a GREAT labor inducer  But then you'd always hear "I'd rather give birth than shovel snow" coz, after all you DO want her to shovel it next winter!! LOL

Get one of the neighbor kids to do it, promise him he can watch you fly the Typhoon come springtime (that and $20 bux should seal the deal) :)

Well, here is the first protoype, not really the result I was hoiping for but it is something that I can work with now. I am going to lose the boxy look by adding the diagonals as in the X-29 rear fuselage, I thought that I could get away with not using them but it just does not look right to me. As you can see I stopped sanding on this one to go back to the drawing board!!! The good news is the plane flew right off the drawing board with out adding ballast. I finished gluing it up and threw it out the front door, it should be a real performer! Hope you guys like it, the next one will be alot better!

Hey guys, thought I would post a progress report for you all. I am not much farther than the last time I posted. I have been spending a lot of time in CAD to try and dress this baby up a bit. After the first attempt and it coming out like a shoe box, I tried to make a few small changes that would have the greatest effect on the final design, I face planted, so I have had to redraw a large majority of the parts to give it that sleek jet look. The turtle deck has been completley deleted and redrawn as were the tops and sides, the vertical fin had to be tweaked a bit to allow prop clearance along with some other changes. The drawing now looks better and I think this will be the one that I end up going with as it looks promising, but that is what I thought about the first one!!! Thanks to you all for the support and patience, it will be rewarded in time with a sweet looking and flying Eurofighter!

Looking good!

Do you mind a couple of suggestions...?
1. Engine intake---> make center "divider" a little longer so it will form little curvature in the intake bottom. Looks better that way and depron is forgiving.

2. Add more room for intake to add intake lip.

3. Make 120% size plans for me tiled when finished :)

If I understand correctly you make it about 32" wingspan? I would like to have it at fuselage lenght about 1.2 m and wingspan should then be about 1m ?

Thank you in advance :)

PS. I have noticed that when making bigger than original the plane flies more realisically .. (my T-38 is laaarge...)

We are way close now! The plans are almost complete. The parts are almost finalized for a test run. The plane is high on my priority list for the next week so hopefully you guys will finally have what you have been waiting for. Once I am satisfied with parts fit I will make the parts sheet for scratch builder and get the stuff to Levi so he can get it up on the site for you guys. I took the prototype into the hangars at work for some test glides and was getting around 100' glides so she is going to be an awesome performer.

Great work on this design, Chris! I'm looking forward to seeing how this jet looks when built!

I've got a suggestion for you. I learned on my Gripen Park Jet that a straight one-piece carbon tube wing spar (non-swept) works great and saves a good amount of weight and building complexity relative to a swept spar. The Typhoon has a very similar wing planform to the Gripen, so it should work just as well here.

Just letting you guys know that we have not forgotten about you! Levi is so busy that I think he has give up sleep all together, I have not had much time to work on this plane either, I have been working 10-12 hour days at work and then bringing stuff home to stay caught up with my real job, I do have my Laptop set up next to the laser so I can keep plugging away to help Levi get caught up on orders. I got a big promotion at work so I went from turning wrenches to running the shop overnight so I have a huge mountain to climb with that one!, don't mean to make excuses or want anyone to feel sorry for us, just keeping you guys in the loop on the real world issues. We appreciate all of the patience that you are giving us. Levi has all the plans tiled and PDF'd so when he gets caught up, he will get them out to you guys. You can paint EPP with all paint materials, there are no need for acrylic, just use what you have in stock.
