Anyone here ever thermal with a Slow Stick? How did it fly?

I did today at lunch time. I'd been flying around for a while when it started to rise on its own. Turned the throttle down to about three clicks above off, added a little up trim, and the plane kept going up. Started at about 150 feet and was at maybe 3-400 feet when I chickened out. It was going up fairly fast and I didn't want it to drift away. As it turned out, the battery died just as as it came back to tree-top height and coasted to a landing. The SS flew very nicely. I just touched the rudder now and then to keep it in a lazy circle.

I've seen it done, several times.

I've done it many times. They are not very responsive, and don't signal air well. They do, however, go up in lift.

As if you are not already tired of the "dittos" here is another one. I fly mine into thermals all the time, often shutting off the motor completely and just gliding around. If you fly into a thermal with the plane trimmed for straight and level flight as soon as it enters the thermal it will balloon up and then come down. Turn the plane gently to where it starts to balloon up again and then trim it for a nice lazy circle. I have done 30 minute flights on a 10 minute battery many times.

Same here, do it all the time. Thirtey minute flights the whole bit. It may be a better glider than some of my sail planes.
Looks great at night, when I use the lighting system . Now to try out my floats in a big mud puddle. You gotta love these stupid things! :D :D :D

Hey cool I just got a set of GWS floats for my Slow Stick for puddle jumping in the Oregon rainy season. Gives me a reason to get out on those soggy parks and athletic fields. Actually looking forward to a bit of rain now!

Another ditto on the thermalling with SS. I need to get a new one. The old one went to my son and I have since progressed to warmliner, hotliner, full house and now DLGs. It would be nice to just toss that SS and have some fun at the local flying field again though.

I caught some lift yesterday with my 28-ounce photo SS, so yes it is possible.
