View Full Version : Very short flight times - 10 seconds. Help Please!

I followed the manual on charging the batteries and cyled them a few times. My flight times are VERY short. After charging the batteries to full the BR will take off with authority but starts loosing power almost right away. Then it no longer has enough power to lift off. If I let it sit for a while I can get another quick 5 second flight before it looses power and decends.

How can I fix this?

are there 2 exposed wires leading to the tail rotor?

Mine does the same thing, I just bought it, and waited two weeks to get it..
Mine has wires that goto the tail motor, why do they short out?

Yes. The tail motor work fine though.

maybee try changing 9volt Batt in the remote. if its low on power the Saftey feature on the BladeRunner will kick in and and make u drop all slow.. tyr checking the Volts on the LIPO battery as well..

Lipo's are KNOWN to NEVER fully charge again IF they drop below a certin voltage threashold.

The 9v is brand new but I did drain the lipo down pretty far once. Maybe that is the problem.

Nope. I sent Interactive Toy an email last week and haven't heard back.

Guys, I just posted an answer about this in another thread, but will post it again here:

Do you have the 1st generation Bladerunner with the black body? The very first run had a very poor battery and reports are 3 minute flights at best. After a few cycles those flights are down to 30 seconds because the battery is being severely overloaded. Later generation BRs have much better batteries. My QVC version can fly 8-9 minutes without landing on the original battery. Some people with the original BRs have swapped to a Kokam 340 cell with very good results.

==What are the new ones supposed to look like so I can hopefully avoid getting ganked==

The newest versions are being sold by QVC. They are pretty obvious because they are not black like the originals, they are blue or purple. They have tubes for the tail boom instead of a rod and the motor wire runs through the inside of the tube. They also have the best battery yet that has been installed in the BR.

There are two generations of the black BR. The first gen has the worst battery. The easiest way to tell if you have the 1st gen is the throttle stick on the transmitter is ratcheted. If you have one of those, your best bet is to transplant a 340 Kokam cell into it. You can still use the factory charger with the Kokam and your flight times should be 8+ minutes of continuous flight.

I bought a new one from QVC as a gift for my brother, and he loved it. After the third flight, he couldn't get the BR to charge (30 seconds or less flying time). He is going to replace the TX battery, but it was brand new.

He told me he had great flight times for flights 2 and 3, but is afraid he may have run the LiPo battery down. I thought the BR had an undervoltage cutoff?

Anyhow, I just received another BR from QVC that was supposed to be the "big" XMAS gift for my son. I've decided to not give it to him for fear of it dying...

I hope we can get some answers - preferably with fixes. At this rate, I suspect the returns department will be swamped starting on the 27th.

One thing he can do is check the battery voltage (on the BR cell) to see if it is indeed getting a full charge or not. Unfortunately this requires removing (and permanently damaging) the canopy. If he plans on returning it, he'll want to leave the canopy in place. Replacing the TX battery won't help the charging, it's handled separately through the plug-in cord. Basically they just packaged the charger inside the TX so you wouldn't need another component to keep track of. The circuitry is independent of the TX.

==Anyhow, I just received another BR from QVC that was supposed to be the "big" XMAS gift for my son. I've decided to not give it to him for fear of it dying...==

Lots of us are flying the QVC version of the BR and this is the very first problem I've heard of, so I wouldn't worry about giving the other one to your son. I have been logging my flights to track motor life and as of this evening have almost 50 flights and a total flight time of 232 minutes. Maybe that'll help your comfort level with the gift :)
