So the plane is prebuilt with all surfaces hinged, control horns installed, etc?

Thanks

The plane has to be built. It comes in 9-10 peices. Very simple to build. Also comes with full details on building... Let me know if you have any other questions.

THanks,
Chris

Seems kinda pricey to me....is it laser cut? what makes it $65?

GoRsKi29
Dec 06, 2004, 12:07 AM
Costs alot to build. Depron isnt cheap. This isnt BluCore foam. How is it kinda pricey? These are top quality. You get what you pay for! :)

Thanks,
Chris

Um well look at 3dfoamy.com they have laser cut depron planes for $39 with everything all laser cut and the new g-force wings...

when you go to the grocery store, do you whine about the milk costing too much to the clerk? no...atleast i hope not. maybe you should watch the video again. that is one of the most precise flying foamies ive seen. if its too much, dont buy it. but dont hassle the seller about the price. do you know what happens when things are sold for too little? they flood the market and become worthless.

Very well said CORNDOG. I couldnt have said it any better. If you dont like the price, No one forces your to purchase it... But let me tell you, I dont make much!!!

Thanks,
Chris

You should be making at least 50 on it with the price of depron at 4.50 a sheet
Good Luck selling one

ryanl2006
Dec 06, 2004, 12:22 AM
Fair enough, I see where your coming from, but I agree with the chosen one, depron is not that much.

How are the kits cut?

GoRsKi29
Dec 06, 2004, 12:27 AM
All peices are laser cut. You cant build these planes out of one sheet of depron!! You better do some more research pal. If you dont like the price, Dont buy one!!

Thanks,
Chris

GUARANTEED TO BE THE BEST 3D FOAMIE OUT!!!!

ryanl2006
Dec 06, 2004, 12:33 AM
Trust me I have done my research. It will take 2 sheets or 3 depending on how big it is and how efficiently you arrange the parts.

I will give it to you that the video is nice, but I still think the price is too high, but thats just me. Obviously there is not $50 in parts in that if many many companies sell depron planes for $40....so that means at least half of yours is profit.

Good luck with your endeavor I sincerely hope it works out well for you.

Carbon Fiber rods, Hinges.. That stuff isn't free. Labor is also a factor. If you feel it is to high priced, stick to the cheap foamies. No problem!

Thanks,
Chris

All the prices I listed include carbon, control horns, carbon control rods, laser cut motor mounts, the whole thing, oh and they include labor also.

Chris,
What labor are you talking about? You already posted above that the plane comes in about 10 peices and has to be assembled. Do you mean all your labor putting the different parts in a box to ship? A box that you charge $10 to ship at that.

I wish you the best. Maybe you'll sell every single one you have...sort of how you sold every motor you had in this post of yours from a little while back... http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=304365

Man, you'd think that selling 22 "bRuShLeSs MoToRs", and then another half dozen brushed motors and half dozen esc's would merit you more than just one good feedback. Sheesh...some people. :)

Again, best of luck. The plane in the video has one heck of a pilot on the sticks.

how much do you think it cost the folks at gws in TAIWAN to make your new pt-17 biplane that you just paid 70 bucks for? yet you all looooooove mr.lin. i gotta quit this thread....lol.

ryanl2006
Dec 06, 2004, 01:26 AM
corndog-you are comparing apples to oranged here. That 70 bucks for the gws plane is molded, and painted, and oh btw comes with motor gearbox and prop.

Also it has an airfoil. And full fuse.

All that for not much more then a meat tray cut into 9 pieces with a section of carbon rod being sold here? I dont see your argument.

C'mon now, I'm not trying to "get 'em". I was just pointing out the obvious. It's people's attention to detail (or lack thereof) that gets me going. Well, that and blanket statements like "stick to the cheap foamies". I have, and I've been happy with 'em. Here's a cheap one of mine from a few months back: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2722468&postcount=61

Gorski also recommends 3 servos, although it sure looks like the plane in the vid had 4 servos. JR 281's...good choices. I'd gladly pay $85/shipped for a painted one if it made me look that good, but I'm afraid nothing short of hardcore practice is gonna do that for me. I know this since I already have good equipment, and I still suck in comparison to the vid.

Ok, I'm off my box before big bad 'ol Mr. Woods comes along and gives us the boot!

Best of luck Christopher.

my point is that it cost them a nickel (yes, exaggerated) and we pay 70 for it and dont cry about it. thats your complaint isnt it, how much he is making on it? i may be argueing the wrong point by now...lol.

ryanl2006
Dec 06, 2004, 01:34 AM
Corndog-you find me a plane equal or better in quality quality for almost half the price of gws planes and I will admit that you are correct.

This kit is $60 for a flat foam kit. 3dfoamy kits are $40, those are equal comparisons, similar size, similar amount of stuff included. I would argue that the 3dfoamy is also way better quality. Look at the new g-force wing with a partial airfoil, imbedded carbon rod, swiggly motor mount, the list goes on.

Or look at insanefoamies.com Their claim to fame is the flat bar carbon which is way more expensive then tubes, and yet they still keep there price down...

My point is he is charging way more then "industry standard" for a plane that as far as I can see is less quality, and then claiming it is the best foamie ever.

thechosen1one
Dec 06, 2004, 01:34 AM
First he has to sell one at those prices to make anything.......otherwise he's just out 15.00 for supplies. Capitalism at it finest........color me gone too.....I sence Mr Wood comming

the best way to argue is to understand each others point and admit when were wrong. ill try to do that. i understand what you are saying about the industry standard, you are correct about that. my point: its rude to complain about the cost of a typically non-negotiable item. its your right, but its not polite. hey...that rhymes. there is more to a plane than the cost of materials. it really doesnt matter if it costs chris a nickel and 5 minutes to make. if he has something really sweet, its worth it and he can demand a premium. truth be told, neither of us can really say anything about its true "value" unless we can get our hands on one. also, its really good for the hobby to have small manufacturers so i wont give chris a bad time for his kit cost. peace brother :-)

Dec 06, 2004, 08:09 AM
The plane's name is "FOAMtana" And I don't think its a rip off. The "Katana" Is a 1:1 scale airplane...Its merely a model.

My flying buddy ordered one of these, and it is really is top notch. The painting is very well done, and the plane came out real sturdy:D

You guys are a bunch of babies....complaining like that!;) It really is an awesome looking kit.. Cant wait to see it fly in person.

No doubt. Painted ones are $50 + $10 shipping.

I called Darrol to ask about the model and he seemed like a good guy.

The FoamtanaS,by Lee Ulinger, sold by Darrol Cady is a winner. Two in our club and I have one.
Great price for a quality product. My favorite, although I can't come close to utilizing its potential.

I have one on the bench. The paint work is great as well as the workmanship on the foam cutting and beveling. The motor mount for the Axi is also very well thought out.

Few days off work now so I'll hopfully be getting to it this week and I hope to start a build thread.

I'm confused here...the picture on page 1 is the same on Darroll's website....the price is $15 cheaper...

Is Gorski29 associated with the website?

I'm confused....

But as someone else said.....capitalism...I get to choose where and who I give my $$$ to.

I also agree on the flying video.....great flying....!!!

actually $65 is pretty darn good, I mean come on... I'm a 13 year old kid and I can afford that! I paid $40 for the Hobby Lobby Mini Gee Bee and I'm sure this is better! I make $50 a month for allowance, and if I like the plane alot, I'll buy it... Consider these planes are handmade... and if I can afford it, you should be able to also.

The question was not about whether the price was good or not it was why is this guy selling it for $15 more than on Darrol Cady's websitehttp://www.darrolcady.com

No gorski29 is not assocciated with Darrol Cady. For the record neither am I.

BTW - There was a recent change in the price for the painted kit, it's $60 now. Still a very good deal for the kit. Mine has about 20 flights on it and it's the best 3D foamy I've had (out of 8 so far). Still trying to get my pictures posted in a build/fly thread...

Actually, the name rip-off goes back a bit further..

Derek Berenger did a flat foam plane named the Foamtana a year and a half ago, but with so many johnny-come-lately foamy builders out there, I guees they weren't around back then.

Although I'm sure that Derek's plane was great, other than the name (Foamtana vs. FoamtanaS) there really is no comparison between the two planes.

If you guys are interested I've posted some build pics of the 'S' here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=322420
