View Full Version : ESC / Receiver "glitching" issues

I just installed a new Novak GT7 ESC (Losi XXX BK2) and my effective radio range has dropped from near infinity to less than 50 yards - at which poin the steering servo starts chattering, throttle surges....

Only change isd the ESC - was running a Dually until now - glitch free. Have rerouted all wiring, checked all contacts - no improvement.

I have heard the GT7 is sensitive to graphite. Any ideas/suggestions?

Have you tried mounting the RX on its side? Failing that changed motor
incase the capacitors have or are dying and lastly just swapped back only
the speedo leaving all wires where they are and see if it goes away.
I have seen people running the GT7 wrapping their RX in foil and covering
the side of the GT7 that faces the RX in foil as well to damp down
interference.

Are you sure your motor isn't the culprit (capacitors not doing their
job)? Does the problem happen with all motors?

I once had a weird glitching problem popup, after swapping everything,
receiver, ESC and radio, it turned out to be a bad servo. Try swapping
your servo too and see if that might be the problem.

Have you tried putting a couple of twists in the wiring from the ESC to
the motor? You can also twist the wires from the battery to the ESC. I
have personally seen this help significantly in reducing interference
from the ESC/motor.

Thank you to all who responded. Tried all of the suggestions - with some improvements but no full solution.

So desperate measures .... Foil-backed sticky tape around the receiver made a real difference.

Then inserted a double layer of glued foil between the chassis and the receiver. That was a marked improvement.

Then started looking for the reason why it made a difference - and ashamed to admit it, but found that one
of the Schottky diode's solder connection had come loose.

Bleech. (Kept the foil around and under the receiver tho - for any of you with long distance glitching,
it seems to work wonders.

Thanks again to all.

Good catch! I'll keep that bit of info stashed away in the old noodle
for future troubleshooting.

I had the same problem with my TC3. After some testing I found that it
wasn't the GT7, but the receiver. The receiver had some fine sand in
it, which was causing it to act sporadically. After cleaning it out and
sealing the receiver with tape, I haven't had this problem since.
