On eBay yesterday, I tripped over these motors for my low speed scale boats:

Motor:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=3844502743&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT

Specs:
http://www.mpm.maxonmotor.com/files/catalog/2004/pdf/04_124_e.pdf

The lowdown:
Rated @ 9V / 4900RPM
563 RPM / Volt = 4050 RPM @ WOT (7.2V system)
32mm dia x 60mm long x 4mm shaft
No load current 165 mA, 2.5A @ 9V 20W Power

Best of all $12.50/ea

I should be able to run these direct drive for scale speeds. Check this guys web store. He has other flavours of these motors including gearheads, etc for really good prices.

Hope this helps!

We have used Maxon motors for combat warships for several years. When you find a motor to match the displacement of the ships, these are very efficient motors. This motor works well for 1/72nd scale small destroyers of the German T-Boat or Italian Spica Class. For something the size you are looking at they should be a great little motor. :)
