!Introduction
This was the sixteenth year of the Superman Jet rally held at Metropolis, Illinois. The event was held during the first weekend of October and brought in fliers from all over the world. This year on Saturday, October third, there were around 130 pilots registered. Many of the pilots had spent the week in southern Illinois flying and showing each other their new creations.

During Friday night, thunder storms rolled through the area and the morning looked like heavy cloud cover would hamper the event. When we arrived at the rally the cloud ceiling was around 200 feet and it was windy and cold. There were actually pilots flying despite the poor weather and we decided to stay. Within hours, the clouds cleared out and the sun heated up the flight line, you couldn't have asked for a more beautiful ending to the day.

A representative of the AMA was also there Saturday morning and presented the event organizer Jerry Caudle with a surprise award in the form of a plaque.

!Conclusion
The Superman event is a fantastic one! There were plenty of jets to look at and vendors to talk to. I've attended for the past five years and enjoy it every year. The event is held at an actual airport so there is plenty of landing room, and plenty of room for people to watch the show. Get there early for a good place to sit and be sure to bring along a comfortable chair.
