Make sure your graphics card supports T&L before signing up.

It does say that under Minimum system requirements. Quite amazing how many
people have downloaded the game then instantly grumbled about it not working
on their ancient 2d card and not even bothering to read the min specs :)

Minimum system requirements:
- Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP
- Processor with 1 GHz or better
- 128 MB RAM
- Graphics card with hardware T&L e.g. GeForce 3, Radeon 9000 or
similar
- Game-port
- 56Kbps dial-up Internet connection

Recommended system requirements:
- Windows XP
- Processor with 2 GHz or better
- 512 MB RAM
- Graphics card with hardware T&L e.g. GeForce FX5600, Radeon 9800 or
similar
- USB port
- ADSL, DSL or cable Internet connection

I would also add Internet Explorer is also a must, site dosnt like Firefox
for example.

Alot of people have 3D cards that simply just dont support T&L,
and they aren't so ancient. This is where you will lose alot of potential
members.

We had two options:

1. Allow cards without hardware T&L. Make all tracks with about 1/3 the
current detail.

2. Follow suit with the rest of the gaming world (they're all going to be
requiring T&L eventually) and have really nice looking stuff.

We chose 2. If we chose 1 we might have lost even more potential customers as
the graphics wouldn't have been nearly as good. We can't have it both ways :-)

In my humble opinion you DEFINITELY did the correct thing.

For years most software designers have always made all their stuff
"backward compatible" to the point of, as you say, making a major
compromise. Now I can see that this would be a good thing for companies to
do (to a point) as it maintains a much wider base of purchasers. But what
about "us", the group that keeps our technology "current" and want the best
computing and gaming experience possible?

We are talking about technology. It literally changes overnight! Just
because someone is happy and content to keep their older 486SX25 system
doesn't mean everyone else should have to deal with a less that current
gaming experience! One can buy a brand new PCIx computer today for less than
$600 US dollars!

Some folks will drive their 1984 Volvo 240 for 30 years and 500,000 miles
and be quite happy. Others prefer to purchase a new Volvo every 2-3 years
and have the latest, most modern technology and driving experience. Both are
very happy but just because the driver of the 1984 Volvo does not want or
need newer cars, should Volvo stop making newer models with newer
technology? Sorry if this analogy does not fit very well but I think most
will see my point :)

I think you have a great racing game! It looks awesome. Drives awesome! No
need to stay in the "pong" era with games!

Just my morning rant..........sorry in advance if it offends anyone :(

Lenny
