I have owned both and still have my Twin Force (but for sale). I find the Twin Force more reliable, but it is a kit that must be built. It's not hard to do. It is a little more expensive since it needs a radio and esc. The E-Maxx is fun as well but a little less durable and harder to work on. They both run around 20-23mph stock on 12 cells. You need good batteries and a good charger to get the best benefit. I built my first kit at 11 and have been involved with rc's ever since, but I took my toys apart my whole life to see how they worked. You'll have to judge for yourself to if your kid is responsible enough for something so expensive. I know 20 year old kids that aren't.
