Hi boaters, Yes Im a newbe in a big way, this is my first time in a chat and / or post. I am also new to rc, but Im findding out it gets into your blood & wallet $!!!. I been building model boats for about 35 years, but this is the first one I've made remote, and it's a blast. I've started with a hull ( I have no idea what it was casted for.) But I am building it into a plessure craft. I'll try to post a photo. I think it made it. Ok it didnot make it. I will post more latter as I find out how to do so. I been reading some of your ideas on boats and other toppics, and thought I may need some advice in the future. thank you for your time.

Welcome aboard. You will find a wealth of information and help here. RC boats are great because there is something to do with them after you're finished building them.

Looks like you have a great hull to start your project.
Maybe we will get to see you in Bellevue Square Park, or down in Tualitan, Oregon, when you get your boat up and running. :)

Welcome to the boards.

well I've made a stab at the cabin hope all else goes the same. it aperes my down size of the photo makes it look, lets say not so nice. I don't like the way it looks with this white deck, so my next project is to change that. I'm going to lath the deck with mohogany. What would be a good glue for this?
thank you for your time

That's looking good.
You really should put your updates in your old thread, instead of starting a new post each time. Then everyone can see where you started.

The motor witch is mounted in the hull was ther when I got it, It was marked 9 volt. I bot a futaba 2ph, 2 channel digital proportional r/c system it's a am system.

Not knowing much about r/c I thought it might be best to get a full system that was tuned togeth at the factory. It came with a power-maxx 2400 mah battery 8 volt.

I've done test runs on the motor untill the battery was low about 25 min.run time, and it doesn't get hot, and it runs smooth. I just hope it gives me the range I think it should. Static tests i've done around the yard only gives me about 30' I think it should be more?

i think you could run that motor at a higher voltage, something like 8 cell (9.6v) still.... if you don't want to go out and buy another battery pack, stay with the 8v should do fine, it all depends on the performance bah bah.... that you want

my first radio (futaba 2er) didn't seem like it's range was up either, make sure you have fresh charged/new batteries. I realy like the way this boat is coming together, im thinking about getting my head out of the planes and back into boats since i have lean't so much about batteries, motors, electrics all that...

looks nice

I just hope it gives me the range I think it should. Static tests i've done around the yard only gives me about 30' I think it should be more?

Was the transmitter antenna fully extended or collapsed? Was the receiver antenna fully extended (not coiled)? 30' is about the max range with the transmitter antenna collapsed. Most of the Futaba receivers have a range of 500 meters, some have a range of 300 meters.

Yes all was as it should be, I havent tried it in any other locations as of yet. I contacted futaba onlin and was told that, the mobile phone tower about 1/4 mile away may be the problem, other than that they had no suggestions.

By the way, another update. Things are going to smooth.

No it's not a kit, I found this hull at a second hand store. Saw a picture of a boat that I thought would look good in the water and thought I would try my hand at R/C.
At the beginning of my string, you can fallow my progress.

Thank you all for the encuregment.

how about soom closeups, this program only allows 100 kb for photos, I have to srink photos to upload. In these pictures you can see the mohogany lath strips on the cabin, I did the deck the same way, I am not tring to get the finnish so smooth that it desn't look scratch built. I am not fond of a plastic look, Even though I know it takes a lot of skill to get a plastic finnish on wood, and you howm can acomplish this should be proud ( HATS OFF TO YOU).

just one question why does your windows look like they are full of leaves
are you using your model as a green house :)

Those are curtins inside the cabins, when I build static models I try to decorate with something close to scale as I can. It is cloth with a small print.
I am at this point building the captains chair and map table, I've allready lade the carpet on the floor, witch also has a small print.

This is the small print I was talking about, The carpet is from cloth, painted the floor the base color witch is blue and glued down, If you don't paint the base color first what ever is under the cloth will show through.

This project is moving faster than exspected, so much for my winter project

I've built & installed the hand rails, they are brass welding rod, should I paint them? Forward hatch and rail bumpers are mounted. Yes I just seen it, my running lights are backwards, that will be changed. I have also built a life boat to mount on the stern, It's a plank on plank from scrach. I will post photos after I mount it, and make other things right.

wow! now its really taking shape its a beauty. personaly i prefer to leave the brass unpainted if it suits the model and i think it really suits your model. if i didnt know any better i would say it was a kit. well done

It's not a kit, I've built static models for a long time this is the first one I thought I might like to play with. here is the life boat mounted on the stern cabin, is it to much? I need to mount the davits on the stern for deploy of the boat. It took about 14 hours to build, It's 1/4" mohogany strips, with a bass wood keil, and plywood stern & ribs. 4" long 1 1/2" wide and 7/8" deep, the finnish is hardwood floor wax.

Good looking dingy, and no, I don't think its too much. But a question... where did you get the bumbers on the side of the boat? did you make them?

ropanach
Dec 03, 2004, 08:14 PM
I made them from 1/2" dowling, carved the ends and drilled a 1/16" hole to tie it to the boat, spray painted them with enamel. The only thing I had to by was the hull, running lights and anker, all else was scrach built.

As was said in my erlier string, I have been having problems with range, I didn't use the 6" cut to get results, I changed out my motor with one with a higher rpm. Witch I under stand according to Futaba was creating electrical noise, witch was reducing my range. I was running a motor with 13T, I installed a 20T motor, now I get about 140' of range, to get more rang it was suggested I unhook the antani from my brass hand rails and go back to my oreginal antani lenght, this I will try in the next day or two and get back to you. Thank you for your time, and all the helpfull info I been collecting in my short time at these threads, I also put the results on scale, for an other intrest.

I've installed a pair of davits to the sturn, for life boat, and a canves sun screen with a window, & a outbord motor on the life boat. One day it will be done ( Mybe ).LOL
