View Full Version : Yippee! Simulators for 3D flyers ...

Hi
Just saw some really cool 3D flyer vids.
Think I've to add one of those 3D flyers on top of my Microjet!
Problem. I don't think I could fly the 3D bird just like that. So I would like to find a good/realistic simulator ... before I end up with a bloody nose! :D
Any good recommendations for 3D simluators?
Thanks! ;)

aeroflypro is the best by far.
aeroflypro.com has some cool vids.

XTR has the torque training function for learning hovering type manuvers. It lets you master one control surface at a time while the sim handles the rest.
It's surprisingly difficult to master which makes it all the more satisfying when you nail it and get it right.

It was funny as hell, but it seemed I have forgotten to put in the servo screw for the rudder and elevator servo....
Lucky it was a tiny 200 g speed 300 electro plane.... :p First throw I realized aileron was reversed, so naturally I crashed. Then I had a ball until the 2 servos lost all contact with the linkage. So it crashed again. No damage. Wonder if it's possible to damage a few grams of free falling styropor.... Maybe with trottle full facing down? I also realized the throws are way to much (about 50 degrees for elevator, and the whole elevator moves) So I'm gonna set up for dual rate. I have flown helicopter and it worked about the same.
So think me gotta get me som 3D simlator...

Thanks for all the replies.
I've decided on the XTR. Infact, I received it this afternoon.
The graphics is mind blowing. Very demanding on the video system.
Luckily I've the NVDIA 5950.
Tried the 3D training. It is very progressive.
I like the torque training functions alot.
Thanks again for the suggestion!

Cantona (or anyone else who knows),
Can you explain what you mean by torque training? I have realflight and am having a hell of a time trying to get the plane to stop rotating when in a hover. Even applying right aeleron does not seem to prevent it. Hovering is very difficult to master. I have about 6 hours of practice and still crash pretty regularly. Can't imagine how much it sould cost to learn to hover with the real thing.

This might help.

Is yours a RF2 or RF3?
I've RF2. I don't think the simulator handles 3D hovering very well.
Well, maybe I'm not expert yet! :p
BTW, I've progressed well in the torque training within XTR.
Now, I'm able to hover quite a bit with throttle, rudder and elevator control.
Tommorrow I will include the aileron control as well.
The progressive training is really useful. I must say I am totally impressed.
I've seen my friend's RF3. I still think XTR is better. Now waiting to see AFP.

Take a look at this AFP Deluxe video http://www.flybuder.com/aeroflyvids/AFPD.wmv

Cantona,
I have RF2 and I practice with an ultimate 3D Pismo that I downloaded. It's a giant scale ultimate that does really well I think - Have never tried any other sims. No other planes hover worth a darn.

XTR or AFPD. The second have got lightly worse graphics but lightly better physics.

I dont know what one to get either. I was gonna get XTR, but i want the one that has the most realistic feeling to it meaning physics for 3d flying and scenery. I dont really want a game that looks well... like a game, thats why i liked XTR.. but.. i cant decide.

According to many people here, XTR has got good physics too.
I don't own these simulators, I only wrote what I red about it.
