I have never used a RC flight sim and want to get on the bandwagon before I get into helicopters. Which Company makes the best sim that will work with my Royal Evo radio?
Thanks in Advance Pete

If you ask someone who owns Real Flight Generation 2 (probably waiting for G3) they'll say RFG2

If you ask someone who owns Reflex XTR they'll say Reflex XTR

If you ask someone who owns Aerofly Pro (probably waiting for "Deluxe") they'll say AFP

The only reliable opinion you can get as to which of the "big three" is the better one is to ask someone who has at least two of them or better yet all three.

(slightly biased towards XTR - guess which one I own!)

I used to use RFG2 but was sold to Reflex XTR the moment I tried it. Never tried AFP so cant compare, but its safe to say that Reflex is a great sim that you will not regret buying.

Be aware of a problem with XTR before you buy it.

All the major sims (AFP, Realflight, XTR) are capable of accurate simulation and many good models are available for each. However, if you want to program your own models, only XTR has a modeling program (RMK) available to build a visual model to work in the sim. They all have the capability of programming the flight characteristics of existing models but the inputs for Realflight are the easiest to work with.

I have tried all the leading sims AFP, RFGII, XTR, and found that XTR has the best bang for the buck! Having the same model of heli as I own did help(didnt know untill after I bought it though). There has been some problems with the USB adapters reported, but I think that is not a REFLEX problem, but that of shady distributors and hobby shops.

I have owned FMS, easyFly and RFG2. I ended up ditching all three because i was disastisfied with them.

I now own Reflex XTR and it is great. The physics are excellent and the closest to reality i have seen. The software is not as configurable as some sims but they are working on improving it all the time.

I Intend to keep XTR for some time but i will be watching AFP Deluxe closely.

Hi Pete;

I got AFP and it works beautifully with my Evo 12, but I can't seem to get some of the mixes to work right. For instance when I use spoiler, I can't get both ailerons to go in the same direction. But it works fine without them.

Like the rest, I am waiting for AFP Deluxe and I am hoping I can get an upgrade version.

I bought the Radio Shack adapter for Serial Port to USB and it is working great.

I own RF2, AFP, and Reflex XTR.

In order of simulation accuracy, environment, and model availabilty:

1. Reflex XTR
2. RF2
3. AFP

I ordered AFP Deluxe.

This will be my first RC Sim. I think that with the latest generation of sims, be it G3, XTR, or
AFP Deluxe. I feel that as long as you get the added stick time. Your overall skill level will greatly
improve. At least that is what I'm looking forward to.

I have checked out a lot of information on sims. I have found that for me XTR is the best because I like all the heli's that you can get for it. There is a good chance that if you get XTR you will be able to get the heli that you own to fly in it. AFP doesn't have much of anything in the way of heli's. I am getting a T-REX helicopter and what do you know. Someone came up with a heli for XTR that looks like one. Doesn't fly like one yet from what I hear, but I can work on that myself. All XTR needs now is some things to fly under, around, and land on for the heli's.

I found that the XTR greatly increased my abilitys to control a real world logo 10. It has saved me countless visits from the UPS guy and thousands of $$$$$ while learning 3D aerobatics!!!!! So any stick time is worth it. Some people I know have scoffed at the price of the XTR, but look at what it saves! I have not allowed my son to use it as he is already better than I, and I need the secret weapon!

I have used RF, RFG2 and Reflex XTR. XTR is by far the better in my opinion. It's not perfec but it's the best one I've tried, it's close enough to be really immersive when you concentrate on the flying. :)

Can you please give me a link to the T-Rex for XTR. I've got one on order too.

I understand that there are some issues with using the Multiplex Royal Evo's with sims as it could create an ESD problem and fry the transmitter. How are you handling this on your Evo 12? Are you removing the RF module or simply doing a disable in the menu?

UPDATE FOR 04/07...

So which Sim is on top for 2007? I'm looking at getting one and would like an updated point of view.

RF G3.5
FS ONE (Hangar 9)

No one has mentioned Phoenix?

That would be my pick.

I have Phoenix and it rocks - I have flown both G3.5 and Reflex and for the $$ Phoenix all the way, did I mention multiplayer with chat.
