Who does everyone suggest for getting Gell Cells. I'll be needing 6v and 12v for this Paul Tregurtha of mine. Have never bought gell cells before as this is my first really large boat. Nicads worked fine in my smaller ones.

Very often, the amperage available from nicads, or "C" cells, limit your running time from 4 - 15 minutes(1.8 - 2.0 amp). Gel cells will easily supply twice the running time.
The Gel Cells that we most often pick up free at any Hospital Bio-Maintenance room are
6 volt 4.0 amp
6 volt 10.0 amp
12 volt 3.0 amp
12 volt 7.0 amp
In large boats, a simple voltage regulator can be created to run your 6volt systems which can include your receiver and servos.

Well, the smaller models I built didn't have the space for a gell cell, plus they didn't draw much juice, so nicads were fine. This one i'm doing now has plenty of space so i'm going to go with the gell cells.
Free from hospitals? They'll just pass those out?

I get mine from the Hobby Shop or a battery specialty store. If you could get them free from a Hospital, they're probably about shot. They use them on IV pump machines. I get the 7.5 Mah gel cells for my starters and power panels.

I retreive the cells from my hospital. For the most part they work fairly well for free :p
By hospital rules the cells have to changed out of certain machines on a regular basis whether the cell is bad or not. The most common cells that I find are 12v3.2Amp, 6v4Amp, 6v2.4Amp with the occasional 12v1.2A and 12v7Amp.
If you go to the bioengineering section or maintance section those are the guys you want to talk to. They often set the cells to one side and have someone come by and pick them up for recycling.
All Electronics is often a good source for batteries and other special hobby stuff :)

Thanks. I'll have to keep that in mind. I seem to spend too much time lately in the Hospital.

I recently found a new source for Gell cells at a very competitive price, especialy with hobby shops or online. Now it might have a lot to do with the fact i kinda live in the country, but, the local ace and true value hardware stores carry these feeder systems for wild animals. Their automated systems that feed wild game and use gell cells(6 and 12 volt) to power them. The price for 6 volt was around 12.00 and the 12 volt were around 15.00. Thats diffenitely better than radio shack prices and even better than hobby-lobby. Hope this helps.
