View Full Version : ask 21 for thermal?

I may b able to get a used ask 21 made by nesail from a freind my questions are, 1 will it b able to thermal, 2 how hard is it to fly, and 3 if i make a not so smooth landing will i b able to brush it off and fly again?

Are you talking about this ASK21 (http://www.nesail.com/detail.php?productID=89) ?
If so, I think you can pretty much forget about thermaling, this is strictly a slope ship...

stick a power pod on the top w/a speed 400... would hurt the looks a little but you could get it up high enough to sniff around and get some extended flights.

It's possible to thermal pretty much anything...just don't expect high end performance from it. With that airfoil it's more suited to the slope...but if you find a fast rising thermal you can get some height. It doesn't look like it has a rudder...only ailerons and elevator. Not having flaps and a rudder will be a disadvantage. If you're looking for an inexpensive TD 2 meter check out the Spirit Elite.

If you are really wanting a scale ship for thermal take a look at some of the Schweizers that Tom Martin is kitting. He has several models and several sizes, some arf, some long kits, some short kits.
