I'm trying to build this Foam cutter power supply http://www.nsrca.org/technical/tip_...ower_supply.htm

Where can I find a Triac 400 VAC 6 amp?? Radio shack no longer carries them(discontinued) and the mouser part # mentioned in the article(http://www.nsrca.org/technical/tip_...ower_supply.htm) is in stock, but considerably higher in price $5.60/each as opposed to Radio Shack $0.97. I have searched mouser for alternatives, but I really don't know enough about all the electroncs, i.e.-non-sensitve gate, overvoltage protector thyristors, etc, etc. Anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks for any help, I have all the other parts but this one and can't complete my power supply without it

Mr Base......

Look up your Ma and Pa electronic stores in your area, see if they carry the Jimpak Line(yellow Blister pack) ask it they have a Triacs. Also you can buy a replacement transistor.
Check your local electronic component stores to see if they carry the NTE line(NTE.com) of components.
You can even look(online) up the Triac you have used in the past and get the equivalent NTE replacement.

When I worked counter sales, I would buy lots of Jimpak components. The Jimpak Line comes from Jameco Electronics(Jameco.com), the bad thing is if you call Jameco they have a 20 or 25 dollar minimum, but they do have technical support.

If you get real desperate, go to a place that services copiers and see if you can dig in there junk (I have one next to me-I allways stealing metric screws, bearings, connectors, fuses and transistors)copiers.

That is my two-cents to your problem..
