<title>A visit to New Creations R/C</title>

</head>

<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF">

<p>Roughly 45 miles north of Houston lies a quiet, unassuming town called Willis, Texas.
This town is the home of New Creations R/C, which is undoubtedly the largest electric
flight hobby store in the entire world. Luckily, I was given a great excuse to go visit
Willis and New Creations when Martin Lagerstedt, an EFLIGHT member from Sweden, came to
Dallas for a visit.</p>

<p>Like many modelers, I have gotten to know Kirk fairly well due to the fact that I've
helped him make several of his house payments via hobby purchases. Just about anyone can
tell you what a pleasure it is to know Kirk and to do business with him. I cannot honestly
recall ever catching New Creations out of stock on any component I needed. I fully
expected to see a well stocked R/C store when I visited, but I still wasn't quite ready
for the experience of viewing somewhere over 150 model kits, shelves of Astro Flight,
Aveox, and MaxCim motors, a wall full of speed controls, and huge bins full of every
imaginable accessory.</p>

<h3>The store</h3>

<p>Kirk has two showrooms. Unfortunately, none of my photos of the first room came out.
The primary showroom is displayed here in this photo-essay.</p>

<p align="center"><strong>The main showroom. On the far wall is where the speed
controllers are kept. Martin and my wife, Grace, are at the counter trying to confuse Kirk
so he miscalculates the cost of my order.</strong></p>

<p align="center"><strong><img src="http://static.rcgroups.com/articles/ezonemag/1997/../images/ncvisit5.jpg" width="442" height="294"></strong></p>

<p align="center"><strong>A view toward the counter on the right side of the store. Note
the shelf of Astro Flight motors (the red boxes). A Chris Boultinghouse P-51 Mustang hangs
from the ceiling on the right.</strong></p>

<p align="center">&nbsp;</p>

<p align="center"><img src="http://static.rcgroups.com/articles/ezonemag/1997/../images/ncvisit2.jpg" align="middle" width="348" height="232"><strong> Martin just can't decide.</strong></p>

<p align="center"><strong><img src="http://static.rcgroups.com/articles/ezonemag/1997/../images/ncvisit7.jpg" width="347" height="230"></strong></p>

<p align="center"><strong>A very small sampling of the many kits on display.</strong></p>

<p align="center">&nbsp;</p>

<p align="center"><strong><img src="http://static.rcgroups.com/articles/ezonemag/1997/../images/ncvisit8.jpg" width="436" height="284"></strong></p>

<p align="center"><strong>The head honcho, Kirk himself, mans the computer. On the right
of the picture are more kits and a shelf where hundreds of packages of connectors, wires,
heat shrink tubing, and other goodies are stored.</strong></p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p align="center"><strong><img src="http://static.rcgroups.com/articles/ezonemag/1997/../images/ncvisit6.jpg" width="355" height="212"></strong></p>

<p align="center"><strong>One of the most interesting parts of the visit was a tour
through Kirk's back room where he repairs motors, assembles battery packs, and produces
the fine line of fiberglass kits that he sells. Here, we see a drawer full of Astro Flight
15 sized armatures. Kirk also showed us an incredible display of &quot;antique&quot;
electric flight gear, including the original Astro Flight model 10 motor, an impressive
collection of old chargers, and original packaging for many items. Contact Kirk if you
would like to add to his collection of historical electric flight paraphernalia. At some
point he hopes to create a museum.</strong></p>

<p align="center">&nbsp;</p>

<h3>New products</h3>

<p>Kirk showed us many new things while we visited. Two of the things which stood out:</p>

<p align="center"><strong><img src="http://static.rcgroups.com/articles/ezonemag/1997/../images/elecarf.jpg" width="334" height="168"></strong></p>

<p align="center"><strong>The Cermark Easy Electro 72 ARF. This kit is so complete even
the servos are pre-installed. I haven't seen the plane fly yet but the construction is
very good. The wings are pre-covered with a heatshrink tube that slips over the wing.
Additional tubes are provided in the case of an accident.</strong></p>

<p align="center">&nbsp;</p>

<p align="center"><img src="http://static.rcgroups.com/articles/ezonemag/1997/../images/ncgbox.jpg" width="287" height="192"></p>

<p align="center"><strong>A new gearbox for speed 280 or speed 300 motors. The ratio is
somewhere around 4:1. I'm not sure of the prop diameter or pitch. On 7 cells the speed 300
drew 10 amps and the speed 280 drew 2.5. The gearbox/prop/spinner combo should retail for
around $15. It may be available by the time you read this so call New Creations if you are
interested. This seems to be the perfect combo for very small multi-engine bombers or
indoor R/C.</strong></p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>

<h3>Flying</h3>

<p>We went to the flying field and put a couple of planes in the air. I was all set for
the first flight of my Cloud Dancer but Kirk noticed a bad aileron servo so it was
aborted. Kirk is a good pilot and pleased the mostly glow crowd with very long highly
aerobatic flights.</p>

<p align="center"><strong><img src="http://static.rcgroups.com/articles/ezonemag/1997/../images/ncvisit3.jpg" width="278" height="179"></strong></p>

<p align="center"><strong>My Cloud Dancer next to Kirk's impressive Spacewalker.</strong></p>

<p align="center">&nbsp;</p>

<p align="center"><img src="http://static.rcgroups.com/articles/ezonemag/1997/../images/ncvisit4.jpg" width="357" height="234"></p>

<p align="center"><strong>Kirk gets ready to fly his Spacewalker</strong></p>

Wow, nice to see such a writeup about my LHS. And written 11 years ago. If anything the store is bigger and better. They seem to be doing great. I guess I got lucky to live 10 minutes from the store. :D
