View Full Version : Airfoil recommendation

I have plans for the 1/2A SST from RCM, and plan on converting to a 4 channel all foam, electric powered plane. It has a 33in wingspan with a 7in chord. The original plans called for a sureflight wing kit (looks like a NACA 2412). I know for all out airbatics I'd probably want anyone of the fully symmetrical airfoils but what about just park flying, or just lazy flying with some mild airbatics? A while back I either read or someone mentioned using a 4415, or maybe a 4412 because it had a built in wash out - anybody remember this (I may be too far off with the NACA number), and does it make sense? Is there such a thing as a “self-leveling” airfoil? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Todd

Thanks Ollie, I'll give that one a try!

If you want fully-symmetrical park-flyer aerobatics, there is also this one:

Used on the 3D-flyers. Self-leveling is mostly a factor of the wing-design (dihedral, CG, etc), not the airfoil.

Thanks for the input macr0t0r, I'll try that one for the aerobatics, and thanks for the input on the self leveling bit.
Anybody have any thoughts on washout?
Thanks again

For single chord wing, no wash out.

Thanks Ollie - that was what I needed!
