Hi,

Am looking for a servo controlled throttle valve.

I have a hovercraft with a 22mm airflow outlet from which I want to regulate the pressure. Any form of motorised restriction will do but so far have had no success in sourcing a motorised orifice.

Ideally would be a plastic butterfly valve driven by a feather servo?

Any thoughts greatley appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark.

I don't understand what you're trying to do or why.

What is providing the motive power? Can't you just throttle the engine to provide the pressure regulation you need?

Hi Dave,

I'm trying to regulate the pressure from a blower (high power fan).

The blower is made up from a brushless motor driving a tuned multiblade impeller but controlling motor speed does not give a quick enough respose so I need to have a valve that I can obstruct the blower outlet with to get pressure control.

Cheers,

Mark

Then let's find a more appropriate forum for this question...

There is no hovercraft forum, but maybe the boat forum???

Or maybe a question for the heli-hover guys!!!

Am looking for a servo controlled throttle valve I don't think you'll find an off-the-shelf integrated unit for your pneumatic application because the requirements for such devices (flowrate, gain, response, etc) tend to be too specific to warrant production mfg volumes - Probably simplest to obtain the valve first, then fit a servo with approp. torque/response characteristics.

In the hydraulics world, electrohydraulic servovalves are commonplace, so there may be some equivalence in terms of an air valve/servo for your type of application. . . but wouldn't bet on it. I'd start with manufacturers of small pneumatic actuators and valves used for controlling production line machines.
Some of the big names: Bimba, Eaton, Parker Hannifin, Clippard
Also try mfrs of lab and medical controls & instruments.

You might be able to try a carborator (spelling??) for a gas model engine. You may be able to get one in a 22mm size, but they can get pretty $$ and heavy at large sizes.

 Hi medic!!!
Butterfly valves cant regulate flow for a hov... Maybe slides with a Rack and Pinion drive. But... U can also try routing the excess flow (diversion) with a split duct. Butterfly valve will put back pressure on the fan!

I thought they were either up or down, what do you need to adjust it for ?
Can you try and explane a bit more fully so we can understand and maybe we can give you a good answer.
