Here's one for you animals. It's a VTOL design that sounds like it became a victim of turbine failure. He uses small motors and props for hover stability but the power as all jet. Nice aftermath.

Looks like it flamed out... and those small props probably create an awful lot of extra drag, which won't help.

It looked lovely in hover though! Do you have any more info on this model?

Ouch.

I am interested in this model, too. Was he able to adjust the exhaust of the jet, or did he rotate the entire turbine?

I saw someone was trying to create an Osprey R/C, and was using helicopter parts. And, the nacelles rotated, too.

Anyway, an interesting model, and I'm sorry it crashed. If you find out anything more about it, post it, would you?

Gary

Here's a link to some other stuff on it.

Hey Muxje, I was in Amsterdam back in the spring and I gotta say, the Vondelpark is just aching for some parkflyer action. So is that nice stretch of grass at the Rijksmuseum. I'm tempted to take a bird over with me next year.

I've never seen any flyers in those areas, but then again I don't visit Amsterdam much. The rules say you need to keep at least 50m distance to people and areas with buildings... so technically you could get away with it, but I imagine a copper will still chase you off. You should visit Rotterdam; the market area in front of my place is huge, and if it weren't for the 4 light masts you could land a real aircraft there!

Flying 'in the wild' (i.e. not on an official club site) isn't done a lot here :( We regularly have flamewars on the Dutch RC boards about whether or not flying in the wild should be allowed or not.

Anyway thanks for the link. The design looks very familiar... except of course for those odd stabiliser propellers, which give it a rather Jules Verne'ish quality :p

I think it's the first turbine VTOL in the world of r/c ..but I guess it's history now (it was featured in one of the magazines..model aviation I think)

Was there only one of them built?

If you go to his site, he had a rig 1 and a rig 2. It looks like he is still in the process of building the second one, but the site could be out of date.
