This is an app note about making PIC based bl controllers, for both sensored and sensorless motors. After reading through it, you'll quickly realize that sensored motors are much more DIY friendly at the controller level. I am a computer engineer, and the sensorless design seems quite daunting from a software and speed point of view. I remember reading somewhere that while a PIC solution is certainly attainable, it would have to run with an extremely fast clock to be able to poll fast enough to have good resolution. Without high resolution while polling, the controller will be quite inefficient as RPM's increase, and eventually limit the speed your motor will run.
