I was out practicing with my new aeroworks edge, trying to get the basic routine down for my first IMAC compitition. All was going great flying like it was on rails. I come out of a loop throttled it up and nothing. Well I was up kinda high just for this possible problem of a dead stick. The engine is brand new and only had 3 flights on it.
I started my one and only final approach to the runway everything was going great, wind was whistling across the wings(sounds really cool) still having a nice smooth approach. I lined up with the runway was coming in nice and easy, I noticed I was still about 30 foot off the deck and half way down the runway. I decided to make one last turn to try and get a lil lower to the runway and have abit more runway to roll on. BIG mistake. As soon as I started the turn the left wing stalled out it snapped and nose first into the enbankment on the far side of the runway.
Damage report: busted engine box, bent wing tube, fuse broke nearly in half and one wheel pant cracked up.
Cause of crash:
1. Upon further inspection the engine died due to the muffler vibrating loose and moving up against the cowl and firewall. Due to the closeness of the muffler end and the firewall about 1/4 inch clearance, caused the engine to die.
2. Bad choice to make one last turn. I should have stayed on approach and used every last inch of the runway. I would have ended up in some high grass but still had a uncrashed plane.
