plans for building a winch????

seen the commercial winches and ouch!!!! lot of $$ for me. is there anywhere on the web, that someone offers plans to build ur own winch? i could spring for the winch drum and turnaround pulley, but $950 and more is out of my price range.

need ur help.

In RCM's "Sailing Handbook" by Al Doig there is a basic plan using a commercial winch drum and a starter motor all housed in a plywood box. Someone (skybench, DJAero, maybe) sells the drum for $125 I think. Everything all together would be under $300 I think.
