BAe Hawk

Guys,

I got this from a friend recently. He got it form a local builder several years ago and just looked at it from time to time. My goal, to get it in the air! If anyone except local guys (yeah, Mirko and Russ, that's you) can tell me who the original designer/builder was I'll send you a slopeflyer.com hat!

It is very scale. The wing span is 32 inches and that big fuse is 37 inches.

The whole thing is glass including the wing which is a hollow molded RG-14 affair.

Not much to do to get it air ready. That and wait for a good blow. I suspect it will take some air to fly with this wing. Maybe a stretched wing will be in order. We will see.

Oh, yeah, that IS my new JR9303 box it is sitting on in case anyone noticed. A simple plane like this deserves a fancy radio!

Alright, I got found out.....I'm the original designer.....and I want it back! Okay, I'll trade you for the hat.

Glad you ended up with it, the Hawk is a great PSS subject, one that I wanted to scratch out eventually. Can I convince you to do a build thread? That Hawk is sweet, I'll love to see it from birth to flight.

Congrats on your cool radio, I've never used JR, so for all I know it could be equivalent to the Hitec focus II!

Hmm...a BAe Hawk? Hawker Siddeley was the company...and Gordon Hudson was chief designer.

I need a new hat. The old hat is getting a little worn from all the sun, sweat, wind and fun at the old slope.

I'd love to have done a build thread on this Hawk but the guy who designed it and built this prototype has been absent from the hobby for some time. Too bad, he had a great eye and was a master builder. From this point on it I guess it will be more of an install and paint thread. I'll post more as it progresses.

So, to be more specific, the designer/builder of the RC plane, not the real one! Did you know that off the top of your head or Google it? I'm impressed!

I love the Hawk, but I had to rely on Google to fill in some information...I even had to read 5 paragraphs of information to get that out of it, so it wasn't for nothing!

I have no idea who did the model - but it's a nice looking one. The Hawk is such a beautiful plane. I'm going to have to get one! Now I just need that nice hat to wear when I fly it! :)

I am thinking airshow colors for the paint. Maybe the White and Red Swiss job. I just started looking but there is no shortage of interesting schemes for it.

Oooo, the Hawk IS cool... the red and white is good, but I like that black one too, although it would be the pits for keeping track of in flight. Keep us posted!

ps. Wow, that wing looks sorta little! Yup, a good blow will probably be what that needs. But what a neat airplane!

You really can't go wrong with any of those, it all comes down to which one strikes you as the 'right' scheme for the plane. I love the red version, but lets face it.....so does everyone else! The blue looks pretty sharp, that's a scheme I haven't seent before.

I'm looking forward to seeing how you do this.

I am working on a review of a Hawk from Soaring Specialities. It is a very nice kit with a glass fuse and sheeted foam wings. Review should be done within the month.

Nice! Again, I'm drawn to the blue scheme as well as the camo job. That camo paint looks like a challenge.......but worth the effort!

I think that the camo scheme is from Saudi Arabia or Oman. Here is a similar scheme on the ground.

Hey, Mike. Not cold yet. It was 80 yesterday. I just have some down time from "real" work and deceided to get my warehouse/shop into order and found a couple of projects I've been meaning to get goinng on.
