Did Rick Hallett make your wing ?

evan
Sep 21, 2004, 08:41 PM
Yes, One of Rick's old crashed (resurrected) wings that I retrofitted on a SkyDancer that got it's motor & GB taken out and is now winch launched. It surprised me on how well it flew, considering the number of fiberglass patches i've got on it . To quote what my son (who took the picture) said on this contest day, "Dad, you have the cra..... looking plane in this place :D

Hey thesnapper...this chute is OPEN, first time i see it in launch. This may cause lots of drag! You need more tension or less chute. :)
NICE PLANE AND NICE LITTLE WINCH (may be the graupner?).

Yes chute is open, i think it may have been the first time the plane was winch launched so it was taken up real easy and popped of half way up the line. As for the winch, yes i think its the graupner mini winch. A nice compact little winch that had no difficulty launching my RnR Genisis composite with a good zoom at the end!

The third shot of the fellow with the line running across his chest to the model is the form I always strive for with my own flying and try to describe when asked. It allows a good powerful launch and ensures decent balance of the modeller. It's hard to fly if you just face planted yourself onto the TX... :D

Hey MDM. You teased me with your Canon. Now I have the 20D and a 24-70/2.8L. It's real nice. Only thing is, I sold some of my ships to get it. Doh!

Get yourself the latest Eos 1D, no shutter lag, ideal for those fast launch shots and not having to anticipate the shutter delay!!!

Here is a motor drive shot of Dick Rodddy's new SailAire, (he has two) this one has the stiff wing that doesn't bend much on launch. The other one really does flop around on launch. It is, however, a really beautiful plane. It's so big Dick doesn't bother bring a canopy to the field. It's called "Orange Shade".

I'd love to but, I don't have $8000 just laying around. The 20D is fast enough and there's no problem with continous shooting. I'll post some pictures this weekend, weather permitting.

Hmmmmmmmm ok , i am a professional photographer for a newspaper in Northern Ireland. My first digital camera slr was the Canon D30 not sure what its called your side of the pond. It was only three megapixel but ok for presswork printed at only 100dpi. For sport it was always slow to autofocus and yes there is a slight delay in pressing the shutter button to the moment of taking the photo. We changed are D30s for this reason to the 1d's , they are a great camera but i am really fedup with the amount of times it has gone back for repair with problems with flash sync.
How do you find the D20 with flash exposures, i have a friend who has one and he finds with his 520ez flashgun and also using the builtin flash that he need +1 stops flash compensation.
I am not knocking the D20 in the slightest, but when you handle the 1D you will notice a difference in focus speed etc..........if only they could build a stronger hotshoe!!!!!

I really like the vid. The one in warm weather is more appealing.

By the way did you build the winch in the above pic??

No I did not build it myself. Built in Sweden. Dont think they are sold anymore as the one that makes them had some problems with employer or something...

Now, try this. transmitter on ground, camera in left hand, plane in right, bump full throttle with knuckle(no, not the one on my head), toss plane, take picture, put camera down, grab transmitter. :D Enjoy the rest of the flight.

Is that tail too big?

I sit down while launching mine. :)

launch it off the top of my trailer, can set it to release at any tension.
straight as a arrow everytime.

except for those cross wind launches, put in some left or right, step on the winch pedal and watch it blast off on a right angle, looks pretty cool. :)

Also taken with a 20D.
