Those of you who are parents may remember how many times you had to climb trees to recover your kids' toys. Well, now that my dear father-in-law has taken up RC airplanes, I find most weekends include getting the darned thing down out of trees. Our most recent adventure includes using a handmade bow and arrow to shoot string to the top of a very large oak tree. We had to weight the arrow with some taped-on quarters to provide enough weight to get the string and arrow to return to the ground. After that we tied a rope to the string and dragged it to the top of the tree where we were finally able to shake the top branch enough to get the plane to fall. It was in amazingly good shape. one additional problem we had to solve involved laying the string out on a tarp so that it would play out fast enough as the arrow flew through the air. Next time I plan to use a spinning reel and mono filament or perhaps a chain saw.
The things you have to do for these people.
