I have not flown in competition in many yrs. I might start back soon, yr's ago most competetors were using sharks teeth,or skegs. Have sharks teeth been outlawed by ama for competion ? If not where do I buy some, and how are they mounted? Just gluded on,or glue with a screw? Lee :)

Landing skegs are legal in AMA competitions with the possible exception of the FJ3 format (hand-tow). Some of the hand-tow contests will modify the rules to allow for the use of skegs.

Skegs are either screwed on or taped on. The tape on versions are harder to find these days. The screw on version is a little harder to install but apparently provides a bit more protection from fuse breakage.

Sharks teeth (tooth) are also available in tape or screw versions..... used with a skeg they will really help the precision landing scores.

Brian it totally correct.... the guy is really good to deal with and provides a fine product and good service - my personal experience.

The tape does a surprising well job - white electrical tape works well or you could use fiberglass strapping tape. Simply wrap around the nose cone in a couple of places and you are all set. The nice thing about tape is it provides a "weak link" in the event of a high speed entry... not a recommended practice. Of course it doesn't look as pretty as the screwed on versions but it is quick and easy to install. I have been using the tape on sharks teeth as provided above and have yet to replace the tape.

Sorry that page is all but destroyed but you get the idea.
I now sell skeg box kits that have the skeg box machined from 1/4 thick G10 and all you do is CA the side on and follow the instructions, I have been using this design for a few years and I never had a problem and the skeg is off in a second when i don't need it.
