A few weeks ago, I posted a video link on my website. One of our club members is building a JetCat powered Huey Cobra attack helicopter. That video I posted was 38 megs and about seven and a half minutes long. The copter was 'naked,' as it didn't have it's fuselage on.

In the next video in the series, the body has been installed, but there are trials and tribulations. This video covers a period of three weeks, and three Sundays at the field.

This is a HUGE file. It is 126 megs, but it is a 'streaming' video, so if you have a broadband connection, you should be able to watch it.

You can see both videos at http://www.garys.web.st/signalseekers.htm

I would recommend once you watch it in Windows Media Player, that you save it to your hard drive. You then can go to http://www.divx.com and download the free DivX player. Go to the file that you saved from Windows Media player, and open it with the DivX player. It will play in a 16:9 format, which is the format the video was shot in.

I apologize for the audio. It was severely compressed when I made the video.

Supersix,
I have no idea! I have just gotten into R/C flying, and am still on my first fixed wing trainer. Haven't even solo'd yet!

I do know that this is a Vario kit, and that he actually had to move the boom down from the top to the bottom, which required reworking the pod. Some very fine engineering. You might check out the first video, which there is no body on the airframe. That might give you a answer, but I'm sorry, I can't.

A tailboom gearbox is available from folk like Vario.

Sounds like the real thing. A full scale helicopter has turbine engines. :D :)

I saw the note on the Website about the owner planning to extend the rotor diameter. That looks to be a must for both performance and asthetic reasons. It's a big honking bird, but it looks a little funny the short main rotor blades.

It seems to be pushing maximum practical weight and there still the finishing work to do. Once you add paint, scale interior, pilots, winglets and weapons, it may not get off the ground. All I can say is that I wouldn't want to have to auto that thing. :)

Πrē means that a couple of extra inches on the rotor can make a huge difference to disk loading.

I was amazed at how low the disk loadings on my helis are compared with my fixed wing models.

He can probably add a couple of pounds without adverse effect

I agree that adding a little rotor diameter adds a lot of lift. Still, according to the video, once all the heat sheilding was on, it added 10lbs to the initial 38lb weight. 50+lbs (with finishing) is a hell of a lot of weight to lug around.

That's a beautiful bird, and hopefully will end up being all that he wants it to be.

That appears to be a Len Mount Cobra, not Vario. All Vario kits come white gelcoated.

Supersix, I've read that some people use speedometer wires to be able to get that elevated TR. I think there is a blackhawk or Apache kit that use that.
