View Full Version : QUESTION: where can I buy F1 cars
Bengal

I am tring to get 10-15 guys together to run an F1 series here in
Saskatchewan Canada.
Have looked around on the net for cars with no real success. found 1
discontinued by kyoshi and 1 other from ofna.
Where in Canada or U.S. could I get a decent price on gas powered F1
chassis and motor on a quantity of 10 or more. I would also need a good
source for bodies and parts for said cars.
BTW have never raced radio controlled before

Does it HAVE to be F1 cars you race?
You'd be FAR better off going to your local hobby shops and getting a road
car that you have a good local spares and advice supply for. These things
do break, and you will need spares, especially if 10 of you are racing :)

I'd think if you walked into a hobby shop and said you were gonna buy 10
cars to race and want back up parts for all of them and will continue to
shop there for pars and accessories, you'd get a sweet deal.
That's gotta be a 5000.00 (US) transaction.

Thanks, you may be right about a different car it's just that we are
huge F1 fans and thought it would be kinda nice to duplicate the series
over the winter.
we have 1 hobby store here in Saskatoon and he couldnt find anytyhing
from his suppliers in an F1. He didn't even have a road car in the store.
The RC club here only races offroad. I come from a Karting background
and seem to gravitate towards road courses.

somehow I read your original post and saw gas powered nitro F1's. And as
far as I know there isn't any. But.....now that I see you meant electric:
Here's some resources:
http://www.formula1-rc.com/
Also Tamiya makes F1 RC 1/10th scale racing cars:
here's the towerhobbies.com link:
http://tinyurl.com/4y7j5
and another:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBUB7
If I was gonna race 10 of either of the above cars, I'd check that
formula1 website out and see what common parts break and make sure I had
those on hand.
Something else not F1's.....if all of you are new to RC racing but will
all be racing together you might think about the Tamiya Mini Cooper.
They are very affordable, durable, and fast.
I'm not a Tamiya customer, but if I was thinking about ten guys and
keeping everyone happy, and if F1 style isn't the main objective, the
Tamiya stuff might fit the bill.

Over the years I have discovered to just race whatever is most popular at
the local track. I really prefer 1/12th on-road, but the local culture is
to race 4WD on-road. I got a 4WD on-road kit so that:
* There will be parts at the hobby store
* The hobby store will know what tires everybody uses and popular gear
ratios
* I can go to other cities to race and it is still the most popular electric
class, and there will be parts at those hobby shops
That being said, Tamiya does make F1 cars. I just checked Tower and was
surprised at the price for the kit, although it does look very cool.
Hopefully for you those parts hold up well..

I almost got a DuraTrax Delphi..still may try one later. Inexpensive for
what you get it would seem. Here is a link for "Delphi" from TowerHobbies..
It will pull up all the parts and a Futaba Delphi car as well..

Bodies and Crystal sets would need to be different for 10 people though.

Those do look fun. I like how it's $50 for a pre-built kit, or $22 for just
an unpainted body. If you're out in the middle of nowhere without a hobby
shop, those are cheap enough to get several kits, one for parts..
In the online manual http://www.duratrax.com/pdf/dtxc0012-manual.pdf the
gearing in the differential looks like it's planetary style and not a ball
diff. I bet a lot grease in the gears with a stock motor would make the car
fun without tearing up the gears.
