I have had great success using ka3361 and mc3361 ics with filters and through hole coils 35mhz and 455khz. I am after some smt equivalents now I have got hold of some smt 3361s. I am hoping to make my fm rx even smaller and lighter.
I did prototyping on breadboard and the results were suprising to say the least.
