If you are looking for an inexpensive vehicle as a starter/kids car,
Tamiya makes some stuff that is nearly as cheap as Tyco but has proportional
controls and is built better and supported much better. They have the same
heavy plastic bodies and are realistic looking like the Tyco models. They
are just a better deal all around.
Not to knock Tyco, but they are made for smaller kids so the parents
don't have to shell out a wad of cash just to see it sit in the corner and
collect dust after the "new" wears off. For an older kid or an adult you
would be much happier and more satisfied with a Tamiya car which can be had
just about anywhere for around a hundred bucks.

I was looking for a truck or buggy that I could run through mud, dirt ,
rocks without ruining it. Any suggestions?

I totally agree the price for this is high.I seen one a couple years
ago at a toys r us and well it was big and WOW! it did have big
tires...but it is only a toy.I feel sorry for a lot of people that
fall into the psuedo rc vehicles.
If they just went to there local hobby store instead they would walk
out with a fistfull of new knowlenge and well probably a new found
hobby.

I think you will find that if you break anything on the "toy" car you won't
be able to get replacement parts. If it's fast, big, and heavy, things are
going to break. Try looking at towerhobbies.com and searching "traxxas rtr"
.... There's a RTR stampede that is a monster truck, or the Rustler stadium
truck which is really more for racing.
Be sure to note that RTR (Ready to Run) kits do not usually include
batteries or a charger. In the end, you will have spent twice what you were
going to. On the other hand, you'll have a car that performs better in
every way, breaks less often, and has parts available when it does break.
You'll also have reusable radio gear so that if you want a different
(better) kit in the future you can reuse the radio and servos. So add
"reusable components" onto the list of pros...
