Greetings,

I would firstly just like to say hello to all of the people that read this forum, as some of the topics on this site have been truely enlightening, but I suppose I am a newbie in such things.

I have been looking for the last 2 years of building a CH 53 III Petrol driven Remote Control Helicopter. But my experience ranges from mainly park flyer airplanes and this will I hope be my first scale helicopter project, I hope to buy a Helicopter Trainer in soon so I don't end up building a nice wee model and then crashing it lol

But I need some help, I have two main problems, the first one is the scale, I don't want it being one of the Giant Models, at the same time I wouldn't like it being 12inches long, this aircraft is meant to be big lol I am looking at around the 1m size, but to be honest I would like some advice on that, whats the norm for scale models, also for the size you suggest what engine would you suggest as well, I have already modeled a retractable Inflight refueling pod.... it isn't wet... yet lol If you can mustard up a refueling C130 I am game.

The second problem is the engine, but I suppose that would be depending on the scale of the model, I apologise that I may have posted this in the wrong forum.

Also you wouldn't happen to know of any one else that has tried this project before, I plan to have a working rope system and a working ramp. So If you could help me on scale I will post the plans as I work on them :)

I Thank you.

Phil

Try this link.

Saw a pic and video and ................WOW!!!! If the ant wasn't visible you would swear it was real!

It's probably bigger than you want but the designer is real nice and should be able to help you with whatever you need.

Greetings,

Thanks for the quick response, at the moment I have scanned about 50 sites and have fixed myself on 1:24 scale model So that would make the model, nose to tip 0.8525m aka 85.2 cm lol which is rather large. I am planning on emailing the two modellers about their versions of the same model, scale etc

The main thing I am interested in now is the power plant, some thing this large I suppose would require petrol rather than battery, but thats some thing that I really need advice on, engines are not an area that i have a large amount of knowledge on. Also working fuel probe and a working aft ramp and undercarriage and then there is that cabin, which my gf has told me, she plans on fitting her remote camera system in the cabin area and then hanging he camera under *My* aircraft. My response so far... "Yes Dear" lol

So current problems are engine size and type, I have started using CAD to build up the model on the net, I plan on using those out rigged fuel tanks as the real deal or battery packs.

Shame no one has a "Wet" C130 lol

Hmmmm. 85 cm. That is very, very small. You will not find an petrol or glow powered helicopter that will fit into a fuselage that small. Just for comparison, my Raptor 50 sits in a 46 size Bell LongRanger. The fuselage is 125cm long. It is considered small by heli scale standards.
You need to look into a 60 size fuselage - especially if you want to add all the scale details you write about (refuel boom, ramp etc). You will need the power of a 60 size or 230 gasoline motor to get off the ground.
Most 60 fuses are about 55 to 60 inches (140 to 150 cm) long. This is also important because that is the size that fits the mechanics. This is considered the 'normal' size for scale helicopters. The Giant Scale ones are 200cm + and weigh over 15kg.

A young japanese amateur modeler Mr. Nakamura made an original scale fuselage of Sea-Dragon (the naval version of CH-53 with 3 turbines and 7 rotors for sea-clearing operatons, much thicker outline than the army version). 1/12.5 scale, a folding tail and many scaled decorations. The pictures were quoted in November issue of a japanese RC magazine "RC Air World". Apparently the size of this one is smaller than the one of germany.

If you have an interest, he has an e-mail address. But I do not know whether or not he can contact with foreign people.

Hello, I'm new to this site. I just read your not concerning your pursuit of building and flying(hopefully) a CH53. If you're successful locating the parts, etc, you require for your project I would appreciate hearing the details. I have been a fan of that model helicopter since I first sa and flew in one.

As a first timer, what engine should I start out with and what's basic I need.

This is not a model I would recommend for a first scale heli. I started with a 29cc gas engine (4 hp) and it wasn't enough power. I had to go with a two stage Jetcat turbine (8 hp). The rotor is 80 inches across and the heli weighs 40 pounds.
