Geeze...
Assassinating the President with a model plane would be about as impossible as bringing the WTC down in an hour flat with a couple of Arab trainee pilots in a 747!...oh....wait...

Those are the nut cases that we in RC should rightfully be afraid of. With that nut case, "we" are now on the radar screen of legislators.
All it will take now is an ACTUAL attempt to use an RC plane for any violent use and we're going to find ourselves having to be licensed to buy RC radio equipment.
Then comes the "Instant Check" system that will be easy to expand from the gun retailers over to the hobby shops, and of course, we'll be looking at the "only one gallon of fuel per week" law.
I wish I was being funny. :(
Pretty soon, we'll have to start distributing the new and improved AMA membership bumper stickers such as:
"Model Airplanes Don't Kill People... People Do",
and the soon to be ubiquitous:
"I'll Give Up My Model Airplane When They Pry It From My Cold, Dead, Fingers".
And of course, the majority of people who are NOT involved with Model Aviation will deride us, laugh at us, and call us a bunch of violent kooks until Congress finally has a marginal amount of support that will allow them to pass the "2006 Assault Model Aircraft Ban" that will only pass if they allow a 10 year sunset period.
History will repeat itself and still, no one learns from it.

Well, theres an advantage to Electric flight then.
That guy is wacked out in the head. I hope he isn't an RCG member though, that would be kind of creepy. He could be the man you gave advice to on how to carry a 5 lb load! Shame on you all...:p
And, knowing America's Abilities, Canada would probably get the ban as well.

This guy is found in every "Dew Drop Inn" over the corner seat plastered out of his mind, "planning" all manner of nasty things for everything/one he hates, which turns out to be everyone.
He's not capable of doing anything to anybody.
The people that DO attack heads of state don't advertise.
.
Howsomever, I expect to see some doofus model airplane flier describe how the task could be done on prime time tv.
The idea of "being on the teevee" overwhelms common sense, as we see with the cammie clad 2nd Amendmenters looking foolish and stupid on the teevee, everytime something about firearms gets national attention.
The crew on "The Daily Show" would have a field day making Joe Toyairplane flier appear to be more a retard than dangerous, except to himself, for instance.

As far as damage being done by a model airplane, I remember a photo in FM magazine where a competitor at the nationals damaged one of the Blue Angels' F11Fs by loosing control of his pattern ship. Also, several years ago there was some bad publicity for our sport where one of the "No AMA, no club, fly where I want, do what I want, I got common sense" types managed to hit and puncture one of the Goodyear blimps. Luckily, Goodyear management was intelligent enough to size up the situation, and after repairing the blimp did a publicity tour for the local club, and made sure that the incident was publicized as the act of an irresponsible maverick. We have had some close calls with this type flying in the landing approach of our local count airport. Sheriff got one of them, and charges were pressed. My club now has a field just outside the normal takeoff/approach area for this same airport, with the full cooperation of the management and FBOs. After only one report of somebody not yeilding to one of the full-sized jobs (biz-jet) on approach, at least 90 % of our members agreed that if anybody doesn't respond properly to a full size, the pilot will be knocked down, the tranny pulled from his hand, and his plane brought in for a perpendicular full throttle landing. The only people we have had any griping about this attitude were a couple of the large scale guys who thnk the need every bit of room available.

You forgot - "If RC planes are outlawed, only outlaws will have RC planes!"
Sounds like someone needs to fly a plane into the guy making the threat. I don't think we need that kind of publicity from idiots! We've got enough struggles trying to keep flying sites open!

Just saying such foolishness is a federal crime. Any threat against the president should be punished severly. We have ways of disposing of our elected officials...they are called elections.
Regardless of individual politics...every modeler should be able to give this guy a few good whacks. What an idiot.
