I've only experience of XTR but can tell you that it has a built-in hover/torque roll trainer where you can pick how many axes you control and work up from just one to all four (ail/elv/rud/thr). If you download one of the "shockflyer" models for it from the ww.rc-sim.de I think they fly almost identically to the real thing and you can learn most of the 3D stuff in the sim - I've found it VERY useful!

Realflight g2 has some planes that work pretty well for practice, you can download them from the swap page.

I dont think the physics are the best for 3D stuff...but for training yourself for orientation, and controlling by instince....it works great.

Many people say Aerofly Pro. I have it & although I have not experienced some of it's other competitors, I would say that it's very good.

Go to the some of the 3D specific boards
http://www.3dbatix.com/
http://www.3drc.info/
http://downonthedeck.com/board/portal.php
http://www.flyingcirkus.com/
http://pitsbros.com/

& see what they recommend.

I think that phoenix sim is the best :)

Phoenix gets my vote too - loads of official planes and helis, full training suite, realistic physics and graphics, and internet multiplayer.

Note that the four people recommending phoenix to learn "3D", three of them are newbies and one works for phoenix.

You got it!

LoL

I tried Rexlex couple of years back, was really impressed then.
Only NOT by its price. Now dongle upgrades?
I cannot even understand their website, even though I understand German as well.

Its a free life, trust who you want and yes feel free to advice whatever, just be carefull to place people you do not know in categories?

And yes why not pay for upgrades and expansions? Your choices.

Fact remains I know from 1st hand the support I got when my Phoenix hung up on my pc because of corrupted sound card drivers was 1st class.
I know its hard to get but it is true.
Some companies do support in a way that is right.

Just my 2cts.

I'm using RealFlight G3, and like it a lot. From my personal experience with real models, trainers and other beginner planes behave like the real ones. Instructor lessons are useful, to understand the aerobatics figures. In short, this simu is a lot of fun, and is a lot better than FMS which (don't get me wrong) was extremely useful to teach me the basics (3 years ago). RealFlight G3 has photo quality graphics which are more enjoyable, nice sounds, and realistic planes. I'm working on the torque roll at this time...

The only missing thing in Real Flight G3 is a model of the MS Composit Swift II (http://www.mscomposit.com/airplanes/electric_65/delta/swift-ii-airbrush-line---alpine-flier.html) wing (or of the Toro 900 (http://www.topmodel.fr/product_detail.php?id=13646)). I didn't find it anywhere so far. If someone has it, I would really like to try it.

BTW, I don't work for any of these companies :)

I am not a newbie, have no affiliation with Phoenix and would recommend it above all the other I have tried (Reflex, Realflight and AFPD) for learning 3D.

And even though Ade is bound to be biased, I can tell you he is right - the customer support is far and above the best of all of them.

I have been lucky enough to try Phoenix, XTR, Aerofly, Realflight G3.5 and FS One.
In my opinion Phoenix is the best for learning 3D and has the most acurate simulation.
Also the excellent internet multiplayer mode is great for meeting others and learning new tricks from them.
