A Schumacher Nitro Menace that is :) The idea of 3 speed and .21 in a mere
1/10th stadium truck intrests me...
Are they any good? Are they as fragile as people have told me? Would i
ever wind it to 3rd? Anyone got any links to info? I've googled for some,
but more would be nice and i'd be grateful :)

Dan,
Had one for about two weeks- they are devastatingly quick and I never got it
into third gear even on a huge carpark. They are not as fragile as some say
(well not in my opinion) but in fairness they're over geared and over
powered. Don't get me wrong a real monster of a truck that is great for
scaring the kids at the local B+Q but not easy to drive (wants to spin out
because of the sheer power going to the wheels) and the drive is transmitted
thru belts. Get a savage instead - you know you want to...

Dan:
They are insanely fast. I have the XTR3 version and it hauls! I have gotten
mine into 3rd gear a few times out on the old airport runways, but you have
to have the space or it will not wind out enough. I have been through
several sets of tires, but I would not make it my main truck. I have a TMaxx
and a hopped up SportMaxx for the real bashing.
Thanks,
D

I really like the Menace, but these replies highlight the sillyness of
buying a truck "by the numbers", particularly top speed. Like many 1:1 scale
vehicles, a more interesting metric is not how fast it will top out at, but
how it will get there.
The opportunities for running an off road RC truck at 70 mph are few and far
between. Having said which, I would love to have a Menace for its other
undoubted qualitities.

Mike,
Having owned one I've found that the Savage .25 has just as much get up and
go. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that the Menace is a bad truck, quite
the opposite in fact but I think that there are much better out there for
the money. I honestly enjoyed the huge amounts of power on tap but I also
found that on anything rougher than freshly cut grass the car will not shift
up due to drag on the wheels and chassis, leaving you with a very punchy,
but not that fast 1 speed truck. The 21 engine is a hoot and sounds great
but it really is limited IMO to carpark and football field running. I'd say
that they're bloody good fun but possibly over geared in first / second as
you very quickly run out of space / lose sight of the car to use its full
potential.

I assume the shift points are adjustable? Can you not set it so it finds
3rd quicker? Or i you just end up killing acceleration getting into the
bigger cogs too soon?

it on road...

The idea of it been too fast for its own good appeals to me intensely ;)

The shift points were not adjustable so you were stuck with some stock
settings - If I recall rightly I'd say you'd need maybe 2/300 meters of
straight tarmac to open it right out (if you know where the leeds IKEA is
then you'll know the HUGE cinema carpark that was still too restrictive to
get it fully wound up) I think Schumacher did a different pinion set for
better acceleration but it knocks the top end down to about 50/60 mph. I
have some pics of it still if you want me to email them to you so you can
have a look "under the bonnet" of one just drop me an email off MAxbashing
(Andylinney is my tag).
