On the exhaust side of the gas engine the oil that comes out of the muffler
really attracts the dirt and dust to the right rear suspension and linkages
and inside of the wheel, would putting an extension change the performance
or damage the components of the engine or muffler? Is there a remedy for
this?

There ARE silicone exhaust extensions on the market, and as far as I can tell,
they don't rob any power. A friend of mine runs them on all his cars/trucks.
See it here:

Years ago, I switched over to the MIP 360 "stinger" tuned pipes, to run on my
RC10GT's. The exhaust blows out the rear, and all that gunk blows out with it.
No more gummed-up suspension, wheels & tires.
As a bonus, the pipe really adds low-end punch.
The trade-off? The pipe, header, and the (included in the kit) rear shock tower
costs about $50. Also, It's kinda LOUD.
Not sure what vehicle you're running, but MIP makes the 360 Stinger for
several models. If you can get one for yours, I recommend it.

Good luck.

You can use them no problems. I use them. I just lost mine though so
another trip to the hobby shop. GS Racing is what I use.

What model is it? What engine?

I have never seen a Dubro-style extender cause problems, but more
exotic, bigger, or aftermarket exhaust systems can seriously jack up
the designed tuning of the engine/exhaust system. Backpressure,
compression waves, etc.

So I'd say zipstrip on a dubro elbow if you want.

There's a reason nitro airplanes are called "slimers". It's the
nature of the beast.
