been wanting to attempt it. does one simply roll to one side and apply some "up" rudder?

Yup!

Most sports models (as opposed to pattern planes) need a little elevator and/or aileron correction to maintain straight knife-edge.

Bill,
Doing a knife edge, does the ailerons become the elevator and the elevator the rudder? what if you have only a one servo aileron?? Does this make a difference?

In knife edge the rudder acts as elevator (but usually makes the model roll a little too). The elevator acts as rudder (and normally you need to hold a little up or down ele to keep a straight line). The ailerons still act as ailerons, makes no difference how many servos you have! Unless you've got a 3D-type model with coupled flapperons where the ailerons also move up and down together in the opposite direction to the elevator - in this case in knife-edge they help the ele. provide yaw control.

You need a fair bit of power and fus. side-area to hold sustained knife-edge, not many sport models will do it. But no harm trying!
