Medusa Research is announcing its 12mm model in the AfterBurner series of brushless motors.

This 12mm diameter brushless motor will be available in a 30mm length.
It weighs in at 15g and will have a Kv of 4000 with an 80% efficiency.

By far this is one of the smallest brushless motor to come onto the R/C scene to date.
It’s perfect for use in IPS type applications and anywhere you need power and performance in a small package.

Hmmm - What is the diameter and weight of an IPS motor?

Nice job - any test data? Any chance of putting a beta into the hands of an independent tester?

Could you give us a ball park price?

It should be in the $40 to $50 range.

HMMMMM, any pre-production samples available for beta testing? Looks good, like your brushed controllers too. Any chance you will be building a brushless controller? Keep the price around $40 to $45 and you'll have a killer replacement for the $10 IPS motor! I have enough IPS A drives in planes to justify buying a few your motors. Be nice to try different gear combos. Keep us informed here. Some specs in an A Drive config would be great as that is what most of us use on our small planes.
Good Luck!

We have been getting a lot of request for evaluation motors and we are currently reviewing them.

Yes we are well along in the development of our advanced brushless controller line and one model is specifically designed with our 12mm motor in mind.

We are in the process of getting some applications data for situations similar to what you have requested so stay tuned.

Thanks for the fast reply! Good to see a developer answer a post so quick. Shows you are listening to user input, a sure sign for future sucess with a new product. I know of no other drop in bl for an IPS drive, if you can really produce it, do it quick before you are copied!! Keep us up to date here. Remember a good review here is worth $1000s in advertising :)

I don't have the GWS motor product line committed to memory, so I'll just ask: Is this a drop-in replacement for the GWS EDP-50 motor? The weight and the dimensions look like it is, but I figured I would ask. If so, then I have a Pocket Combat Wing just waiting for this baby.

Mitch, looks like a drop in for the IPS gear drive, how it will work DD MRI can tell. It does look good!

That's a Kv of a little more than the regular IPS motor (the RXC) and rather less than the EDF motor (RLC). So it is very close to a drop-in replacement EDP-50 motor, yes. With such a huge efficiency increase, it ought to really make a difference.

Exciting stuff - maybe my TM will finally go brushless - it's hard to get an outrunner into it.

MRI, are you intending to bring out more than one Kv rating in this model ?

I look forward to production release time,

At the moment only the one Kv is in process but the design will easily accommodate other Kvs.
We will always try to listen to what the users what and adjust accordingly so if different Kvs are desired and fall within the design range then we will produce then.

If you could make one that will replace the 4.8 volt IPS motor that is used in the EDF 50's it would be very cool. Especially if it made more thrust. A drop in replacment for the 50's and 40's.

Hello MRI! A round of applause to you for this anticipated motor (ips)! I have converted many such mototrs to brushless...they don't seem to run anymore after the conversion:D. Best wishes to you for this venture. Best Regards
