How can you say the reports don't look good? Not one post in the other thread mentions anyone that has actually used the product. It's all speculation.

ok so it's good for "emergency use" but it's not the errrrrr second coming of soldering :)

A guy here at work got one. He loves it. He showed me how easy it was to use. About 10 minutes later he was sill trying to tin a short piece of 18 guage wire :roll:
I guess it all depends on preception.... I think I'll stick with the old way :)

After reading their FAQ page It sounds as though this Cold heat iron does not have much thermal mass.I would recommend buying to a reasonably priced temperature controlled Iron that has at least 45W and preferably 60W capability Eg Weller or one of the Tandy or other units with a separate transformer/control box.
When you're soldering heavy ESC leads especially, the one thing you need is lots of thermal mass on a reasonably small tip.
