This is my Rascal, built using Top Flite plans from 1962.
Foam core wings, airfoiled fin and horizontal stab, throttled TD .020 with an external .6oz tank. The weight is 7.5 oz. I hope to fly it this weekend.

I took the Rascal out to the field today. The TD .020 gave me a pleasant surprise. It idles beautifully and transitions very well.
I tried to ROG, but the wheels would need to be put a little more forward to prevent nosing over; the good part is that it has enough power to roll on the grass though. After that I tried a hand launch over the tall grass. It immediately tip stalled and spun in, but there was no damage. The grass is so tall that the plane never came within 4' of the ground. I added some noseweight and tried again and it flew like a dream. Plenty of power for loops and it will fly just fine at 1/2 throttle. No trim was needed, but it could use a touch more right thrust. I flew the .6 oz tank dry and it glided very well deadstick.
I'm very pleased with this little plane.

Very nice! Are the green accents covering or paint? I like it.

how on earth did you cut elliptical foam cores??? or was there a lot of hand shaping involved?

It is pretty easy actually. On the root use an airfoil and on the tip use a flat template, or in the case of CNC make the tip very thin, but with the same chord as the root. Then simply lay a paper template over the foam and trim to shape. It requires a little bit of hand sanding, but it is easy to do.
