I have my 3 channel Hobby Zone Tx that came with my Aerobird. Since I lost my Aerobird :( the Tx is just sitting there. I was wondering if there is an easy way to convert the frequency to the more standard 72MHz so that it is compatible with a HiTec 555 Rx. Can I just change the crystal? I know next to nothing about electronics. I can solder just good enough to not get a short on a board. Looks like crap, though. I don't care if I ruin the Tx trying to convert it since it's of no use in it's current state.

Sorry, no. Forget it.

It is not practical to change a 27Mhz Tx to 72Mhz. The changes are so dramatic that a new circuit board would be needed.

Isn't it actually illegal to modify the transmitter? Even swapping the crystal? I believe only modules can be swapped. The question is not if you destroy your own Tx, but other peoples plane you will knock out of the air.

Correct. Technically any modded TX should be passed through a test procedure to check its within spec.

Sell the TX on Ebay, and buy a 72Mhz one.

Or buy a 27Mhz receiver and fly that. I am pretty sure its legal to fly 27Mhz.

Yup, buying a 27MHz receiver would be the easiest way... Or save it for a sloper.. :D

Thanx for the info. I did some research and HiTec sells a 3Ch. 27Mhz receiver. I think I'll go that route.
