Hi all,
I've just taken my new (well, new to me anyway) Schumacher Menace to the
local carpark and opened it up - OH MY GOD!!! I knew it would be quick but
it didn't even get out of 2nd gear and was almost flying past me - It's
absolutely awesome and I can't get enough of it - just got to tame it now :)

LOL I can relate to that feeling. I got my used Mini-T a while back and I
was amazed at how fast that thing goes. 25mph + I can't wait till I get a
full sized vehicle. I'll be blown away.

Ooooh nice :) 3 speed 'box? Sounds a bit breakable to me ;) Was running
mine along side real car today down a looooong flat bit of empty road, it
was doing over 50mph....
Then i broke my transmitter :). I would like to put forward that i require
the most spares out of anyone here on this group :D Ah well, can't take
money with you when you've gone can you, and what else are student loans
for!
On a side note, Proline Road Rage tyres are pretty good for tarmac car
parks, and don't seem to wear very much, tested on 1/8th buggy, that is too
powerful for its own good ;)

Just to clarify, i wasn't racing it or anything, we just wondered how fast
they actually were, and i wanted to play with my new GPS toy in the car to
measure speeds :)

And as another note, the MASSIVE bruise on my leg will testify that, if
throttle gets stuck open cos the thing holding the spring on has got caught
on something, stopping RC with your leg when its still doing a fair pace, is
a bad idea...

Dan / Peter,
The 'box seems pretty sturdy and it's geared for 70mph+ but in fairness I
doubt I'll get near that without a LOT of space. The truck is wearing some
HPI 2.2" radials at the moment and they seem pretty good - very slide prone
though. I have some new Venom road tyres sitting there so I think I'll wait
until the radials are knakered and give them a shot.
My initial impressions of the Menace is that it does most of it's time in
first gear and is still waaaay faster than my old Kyosho Ultima RB (.15
engine) however, give it a bit of fist in a straight line and you're in a
different world altogether. As it shifts up the car squats right down on its
shocks, picks the front wheels up just off the deck and goes off like a
scalded cat - quite what happens at the top end of second, going into third
is a different matter!!!
There's a pic of it here if you fancy a look at it - sitting on some new
grass tyres..

Oh, and GPS rules - I'm a trainee private pilot and I'd give my right ball
for a good GPS system!

My hours are mostly in Piper Archers and Warriors - I have about 42 now and
I'm prepping for my skills test :)

Do you fly rc aircraft? I think it is easier (though more dangerous)
to fly 1:1 scale than rc stuff. hard for me to stay oriented with a
model.

Not into RC planes although I have had a few flights with friend's slope
soarers and thermal gliders. Regarding model versus 1:1 scale, I think they
both have their own challenges :-)
You have a point, though, if you're just pottering about in the real thing
(eg Warriors, Cessna 172, that type of thing) these days, they just about
fly themselves. They barely even stall properly. Assuming they're built
straight and trimmed right, you can just about throttle back and let go of
the stick from any attitude except a spiral dive and they will sort
themselves out quite happily without pilot input.
As you say, the danger quotient is slightly different.
