Any good soaring events coming up in the Midwest? Is there a calendar of soaring events on this forum? If not there should be.

I would like to go to some soaring contest but I have trouble tracking them down, I usually find out about them after they are over. If there are any events in the Midwest let me know, even if its a private club event I would still like to come and watch.

WGH, do you already know about the Eastern Iowa Soaring Society? They have a web site at http://eiss.cnde.iastate.edu/ although for some reason I can't pull it up right now.

200 miles is about max for me, I drive all week for work and hate driving on the weekends.

Yes I am familiar with the EISS, do they ever update that website?

Thanks guys,

There is an RES and Open class TD contest scheduled for Sun. August 8Th. They usually aren't real big. 10 to 20 entrants. AMA sanctioned, so you need to be an AMA member to fly. Hosted by Valley Aero Modelers, Appleton, WI.

Depending on where you are in Iowa, it could be a long ride. But, if you are interested, send me a PM and I can give you directions. You would be more than welcomed. These are a very simple and straight forward competition. 5 or 6 tasks of TD varying between 3 and 8 or 10 minutes with perhaps a 35' landing circle. In the past there has been no entry fee but donations are accepted. The contest director has then been taking out the event costs and dividing the balance to return as prize money to the top three. Like I said, quite informal but a good time never the less.

BTW, the Madison club (MARCS) had a contest a few weeks ago. That would be somewhat closer for you. Perhaps keep it in mind for next year. The contact there would be .........
